Chicken wings are an all-time favourite appetizer or main of mine. It doesn’t have to be Wednesday in my books!

Lemon Pepper Wings, Honey Sriracha, and Buffalo Wings have been my top picks for so long. So when I first got an air fryer, wings were one of the first foods I made.

While I love crispy baked chicken, there’s definitely that appeal to getting that same crispy taste in less time.

Let’s just say that an air fryer has quickly become my best friend in the kitchen.

It’s also the kitchen appliance I now use all the time to make crispy chicken wings. This is especially true when i need a great appetizer for game day or for watching the football game!

Yet I think most will agree that chicken wings are just one of the best and favorite foods of all time. No special occasions required.

The nice thing about air frying is that cooking time is a lot faster, and versus deep frying, the air fryer uses little to no oil.

This makes for healthier foods which can still crisp up beautifully without compromising on flavour or texture.

Unlike a conventional oven, an air fryer has forced circulating hot air.

This is how this brilliant small appliance results in foods with a crispy outside and a tender and juicy inside, like these Air Fryer Mozzarella Sticks.

How to Make Wings in an Air Fryer:

The first step is to pat dry your whole chicken wings with paper towel. The reason why I like to pat dry the whole wings before coating them, is to help the coating stick to the wing and it also helps in making them crisp up nicely.

Each wing is one by one coated in a mixture of dry ingredients that consist of flour, white pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. It’s the perfect blend of spices to give a great taste.

Then you place each coated wing into an Air fryer basket with perforated parchment paper.

Keep in mind though, you can only cook a single layer of wings at a time.

The air fryer breaded chicken wings cook for 18 minutes on 400 degrees f, turning the chicken wings over at 9 minutes.

It’s really so quick! Place cooked wings on paper towels while you get the sauce ready.

During the first cooking process, start making the sauce which consists of honey, light brown sugar, sweet chilli sauce and soy sauce. It’s our favorite sauce.

The chicken wing sauce is cooked on the stove for 1-2 minutes on medium heat. It’ll thicken up so nicely.

This is a nice and light sweet chili sauce, yet combined with the seasoned breading – makes for the perfect taste for kid and adults alike.

Once these air fryer chicken wings recipe are done cooking in the air fryer, transfer then to the sauce pan and coat them evenly in the sauce.

Then you put the wings back into the air fryer basket and cook for 5 more minutes.

These double baked air fried chicken wings have a cook time of just 23 minutes, which is half the time it takes to cook in a traditional oven.

These air fryer wings are not only breaded, but also sauce baked as well. I have found this method to be the best way to get the perfect delicious wings.

Plus you cut down on the time it takes to preheat a traditional oven as well. As you can see these air fryer whole chicken wings are cooked with NO OIL!

They are the best air fryer chicken wings ever.

Can I Double the Recipe?

You most certainly can double this best chicken wings recipe if you’re feeding a crowd and need a large batch!

Yet keep in mind that you can only cook a single layer of wings at a time in an air fryer.

This is for optimal temperature to cook but also to make crispy wings. So you’ll just have to repeat the process again for best results.

The whole concept of air frying works based on air flow, so foods touching or on top of each other will not get that.

This is why you cannot stack wings to cook in an air fryer, or else you won’t get that nice crispy skin nor the crispiest wings ever.

  • To make these best wings more spicy, serve with hot sauce or buffalo sauce for dipping.
