While I love the ease and convenience of a great slow cooker recipe all year long, it’s this time of year that my crockpot really gets a workout. With every meal ready when I walk in the door after a long day, I’m reminded why the slow cooker is the most used small appliance in my home.
Our calendars are getting more packed with tasks and the days are becoming chillier, so the comfort of a slow cooked meal is more than welcome. It’s a good thing most of my easy recipes are made in the crock pot. Let’s just call this month Crocktober!

How to Make Honey Garlic Chicken
For this recipe you’ll need the following ingredients:
- dark meat chicken; Chicken Drumsticks/Legs
- salt and pepper
- soy sauce
- garlic cloves (garlic powder if preferred)
- green onions
- corn starch
- optional: sesame seeds and green onion
To Make: Add some water to a crock pot and then place the chicken in, adding salt and pepper if desired. Add the sauce ingredients into a small bowl and whisk until combined. Pour over the chicken and cook.
After cooking, if you want to thicken the sauce, add in the cornstarch slurry, whisk, and then cook for an additional 30 minutes with the lid off.
I love white rice as a side with this meal, it completes that asian taste. I love basmati rice, though you could use instant, brown rice or Jasmine or even cauliflower rice if you’d like. To get more vegetables in there, I like a crisp green salad or steamed vegetables such as green beans. Choose whatever side dishes you’d like to accompany this meal, even if it’s Red Potatoes.
In my recipe card, you’ll see ingredients and instructions on thickening the honey garlic sauce. Completely optional, yet most would prefer a sticky thick sauce. It’s a simple step to take 30 minutes before eating. Just remove the chicken, set the slow cooker to high, add in the corn starch slurry, add back in the chicken and allow it to simmer until it’s thickened.
Yes, you absolutely can! If you choose to make this recipe with boneless skinless chicken thighs, cook on low for 5 hours. If you’re trying it with boneless chicken breasts, it might take 6-7 hours. Either way, make sure the internal temperature of the bonesless chicken thighs is 165 degrees. If you want to use boneless skinless chicken breasts for this recipe, just cut into large slices before adding into the crock pot.
