How To Make Ice Cream Sandwich Cake

A lot of people shy away from making ice cream cakes, success sounds difficult – yet it doesn’t have to be. With this recipe, you simply layer store bought ingredients. The hardest part is waiting the hours of freezer time, trust me.

The ingredient layer for this Easy Homemade Ice Cream Sandwich Cake Recipe:

  • Vanilla Ice Cream Sandwiches
  • Whipped Cream Topping like a tub of cool whip
  • Chocolate Fudge Sauce or chocolate syrup
  • Crushed Oreo Cookies

To assemble, simply layer the sandwiches in the bottom of the pan, then spread the whipped topping on top of the sandwiches. Drizzle some hot fudge sauce and some crushed oreos. Repeat layers once more.

If you have space between the stack and the pan, spread some whipped topping in between, onto the sides of dessert. This covers the layers, and finished the look. Finish with crushed oreos on top of the cake and the chocolate drizzle, or decorate how you want.

Then freeze before serving, and thaw in room temperature for about 10 minutes before serving.

Soring and Transporting Tips

How long can you keep an ice cream cake in the freezer? This recipe is similar to all other ice cream cakes. You can store for about 5-7 days, well covered with aluminum foil, to keep its flavour and texture.

When I say ‘well covered’, use an airtight container or multiple layers of plastic wrap or foil. Freezer burn on an ice cream cake is possible, and you want to avoid that.

How to transport an ice cream cake without it melting? For short distances, transport straight from the freezer still wrapped, and keep it in the shade.

If transporting a longer distance, you could place in an insulated bag or cooler, with some ice or ice packs added to the bottom.

Many people I know have made this Oreo Ice Cream Sandwich Cake for birthdays cakes to everyday desserts. It could not be more simple, and sometimes the easiest recipes are indeed the best ones.

It’s a simple yet perfect recipe that I almost feel silly posting, yet truthfully – most people don’t think of making it.

Ice Cream Sandwich Cake Tips:

Switch up this recipe for your occasion or for your next party. A suggestion could be using neapolitan ice cream sandwiches and perhaps a strawberry sauce drizzle. Perhaps try caramel sauce, or even chocolate chips with the crushed oreos.

Use your favourite rainbow sprinkles or even golden oreos. You can even use another favourite candy bar instead of oreos.

To crumble the oeros, I like to add the cookies to a large ziploc bag and use a rolling pin. So simple, and it’s a job the kids love to take on.
