It’s not something that is given, it’s something that is worked for. It’s time to take your health into your own hands, and while achieving health seems like a daunting task, it’s really all about self-care.

As our lives go on and we get wrapped up in the chaos, prioritizing self-care becomes increasingly important. Yet what is self-care to you?

The concept of self-care is about empowering individuals, families and communities to practice healthy habits, prevent disease and cope with illness or disability to achieve optimum health. It could be improving literacy, to cutting your nails – anything that betters YOU.

When I think of self-care, I think of things that I do on a regular basis to improve health. While I wish I could say I workout daily, I’m happy with my 3-4 times per week. I am also mindful that sleep is crucial, as is taking my daily vitamins.

When something just isn’t right and I know ‘a fix’ isn’t in my scope, I look to a medical professional. I also recognize the importance of downtime, slowing life down and making time to enjoy life’s moments. Dry flaky skin isn’t healthy and is downright uncomfortable, so I moisturize daily whether that sun is hot or the air is winter dry. As you can see, self-care is endless from the small everyday TLC to the big tasks.

Bayer, a global health products leader, is working to educate consumers on how Better Self-care for a Better Life can make a difference in quality of life, while improving healthcare sustainability. Taking better care of ourselves by utilizing the products available to us not only helps Canadians lead healthier lives, it also alleviates strain on our healthcare system. Making a commitment to practice self-care has so many benefits.

Bayer provides many products in self-care because sometimes you need the right tools to get the job done. Perhaps you haven’t realized just how many you depend on to take care of yourself. Dr. Sholls’s provide comfort, stability and foot health with each step I take, caring for the literal foundation that we are.

Coppertone is a protective barrier, ensuring harmful outside rays aren’t damaging your skin. Caring for skin is an all-ages and daily task, and of top importance in health.

Take the Self-Care Day Challenge!

Self-Care Day on July 24th  … get it? it’s on 7/24 and that’s exactly how often you should be doing a self-care task? Daily!

I challenge you to be mindful of self-care each and everyday, and in some way that betters you. To help get you started, Bayer has created a self-care calendar with one tip for each day of the month.

To me self-care is taking care of myself in all aspects: physical, mental and spiritual. For my physical health for example, I like to take vitamins daily to keep myself as healthy as possible.
