Slow Cooker Apple Pork

I love the ease of using the slow cooker, and I have plenty of recipes here on the blog to prove that! Other ones that I think you need to check out are: Slow Cooker Easy Lasagna, and Slow Cooker Baked Ziti!

The following Slow Cooker Apple Pork recipe is somewhat ingredient-heavy, but most are things you’ll already have on hand. I love that you can use any pork in this recipe, which means you can choose the type that is the best frugal buy.

This recipe is a delicious meal to put into the slow cooker, to have ready at dinnertime. This month has been hectic {with no signs of slowing down}, and it’s nice to have a repertoire of tasty slow cooker meals.

I’d very much suggest you also try this Slow Cooker Cherry Coke BBQ Pulled Pork Recipe. It also has one amazing taste!

I recently went shopping for ingredients to make this Slow Cooker Apple Pork at our local No Frills store. It was then that I realized I didn’t need no stinkin’ frills when getting my groceries. Here’s a fair warning now, I get a little sassy in this post because plainly put, this is an eye-opener.

I want value and low prices and I want them all the time – not just during massive sales or when I have to hop from store to store.

The fact is, I have three kids and the grocery bill can easily skyrocket depending on where I shop. Many think fancy chalkboards, signage, and food samples you get at some grocery stores are free, which is totally wrong. All those extra frills – from special packaging, to elaborate displays and in-store activations – cost money!

Does that fancy in-store display make your dinner taste better? No. Do I want to pay for that costly hardwood in-store? Heck no, I’m in and out for a few groceries, not a spa-day.

Check out my video about my recent experience shopping at No Frills for the Slow Cooker Apple Pork recipe ingredients. It’s a showcase of the best deals I found.

Here are my my favourite Frugalista grocery shopping tips:

  • Shop on a full stomach, you’ll likely buy less items you don’t usually buy.
  • Plan your meals, snacks and school lunches for the week and buy accordingly.
  • Go armed with a list and stick to it.
  • Clean out your fridge and cupboards regularly. Use up what you bought before buying more.
  • Watch for sales discounts, use coupons and don’t forget about those handy coupon apps!
  • Buy the items you use the most in bulk. If you freeze some, make sure to note a date on the bag.
  • Just because it’s ‘on sale’ doesn’t mean you need to scoop it up, unless you will use it within a reasonable timeframe.

During my No Frills shopping trip not once did I scoff at prices. I was in and out of the store smiling – my job done – and I was able carry on with the day without a crying wallet. So doing your shopping there is really the perfect Frugalista grocery shopping tip!

  1. This recipe looks amazing. Thanks for sharing. We have a wonderful new No Frills in our small town. Love it. Their produce is always good and great prices. I wish they had a deli counter or even a bakery counter, but I guess that’s why it’s a No Frills.
