Two Children’s Pain Relief Products to Have Inside Your Medicine Cabinet

In the journey of Motherhood from being a newbie to today, I credit many valuable resources in helping me along the way – the many parenting books I had collected, advice and stories from Moms in my circle and stories, and of course my doctor’s recommendations. Yet I also have to give credit to myself as well, since with each experience I gained valuable knowledge and wisdom. I guess you can say that in some ways, we are all parenting experts when it comes to our own children.

When my oldest was just over two years old she had developed a mild grade fever, I gave her Children’s TYLENOL® since up until then I had used Infants’ TYLENOL® Drops. It was only natural to opt for the next age-intended product that I had used in the past. In this instance, her fever broke within a couple of hours so it did the trick in helping her get back to her wildly toddler ways.

Yet it was the next occasion that I, under doctor’s advice, gave her Children’s MOTRIN®.. Since her fever was caused by teething, my doctor recommended an ibuprofen product. This experience made me realize that I should learn more about each product since each work differently, and should consider keeping both products in my medicine cabinet at all times.

Are you aware of the differences between Children’s TYLENOL® and Children’s MOTRIN®?

Children’s TYLENOL® and Children’s MOTRIN® work differently to relieve your child’s pain and/or fever because they contain different active ingredients.

  • Children’s TYLENOL® can provide fast, effective relief of fever and pain due to cold, sore throat and muscle aches and sprains..
  • Children’s MOTRIN® works differently to alleviate these symptoms and provides up to 8 hours of fever relief.

Yet ‘pain’ is a general term isn’t it? It’s easy to focus on this word and assume that they are one in the same, yet that’s not the case. Children’s Tylenol® can provide fast, effective relief of fever and pain due to cold, sore throat and muscle aches and sprains. Children’s MOTRIN® works differently to alleviate these symptoms and provides up to 8 hours of fever relief.

I personally don’t reach for one more often than the other, that all depends on what the relief is needed for. Right now one of my twins is complaining about a lot of discomfort from muscle aches, from her tumbling and cheerleading practices. For that, I’m helping her with some Children’s TYLENOL®, for instance.

Having both in my cabinet has better equipped me to help my kids get fast, effective relief.

For that baby of mine, who isn’t a baby anymore at 12 years old, I use Children’s TYLENOL® when she has a fever, yet at other times prefer Children’s MOTRIN® because of it’s anti-inflammatory effects and long lasting relief+.

I believe all moms should consider having both Children’s TYLENOL® and Children’s MOTRIN® on hand. Both can be purchased at national retailers and most local pharmacies. These include but are not limited to: Shoppers Drugmart, Rexall, Jean Coutu, Walmart, and London Drugs.

Of course in all cases in medication administration, especially for kids, ensure you are using the correct dosage and safe-handling and storage of the products. When in doubt, please make sure you consult with your doctor. In addition, HERE is a free printable dosage guide and fever and pain diary for your reference.

To be sure either of these products are right for your child, always read and follow the labels.

+ Children’s MOTRIN® can provide up to 8 hours of fever relief.
