Royal Canin Dental – Pet Oral Health Results

In February I shared the news of my collaboration with Royal Canin, and the beginning of our dogs journey for oral health. At that time Charlie, a 1 year old purebred King Cavalier Charles, visited our veterinarian and had a teeth cleaning and examination. I said in my previous post that I’d post an update on Charlie – and I do have some news to share!

After the first dental appointment and cleaning, Charlie was switched to Royal Canin Dental Nutrition Formula for Small Dogs. Before that he’d only had Royal Canin Mini Puppy dry dog food, as per the advice from our breeder.

The Royal Canin Dental Nutrition Formula for small dogs was food of a bigger size, and he transitioned very well. He loved it! Yet due to his breed tendency for being a little gluttonous – he swallowed this dry dog food food whole as he always did, even though it was larger pieces than what he was used to. Thinking that he would benefit the most from a dental food if he actually chewed it, I discussed my concerns with Royal Canin.

It was then suggested that Charlie be switched to Royal Canin Dental {for large dog}. The dry food pieces in the large dog variety are of course larger in size – and problem solved! Charlie started chewing his food for the first time ever. I knew that this would be great for his teeth. Also, it was nice to see him taking his time and enjoying food for a change, and not gobbling it up whole within a few seconds.

Every time I heard Charlie crunch the food, I knew his teeth were getting scrubbed. I did try to brush Charlie’s teeth a few times, but his personality and stubbornness wouldn’t allow much of it. I’m going to keep trying though, since it is highly recommended that we brush our pets teeth!

Yet since I wasn’t so successful at brushing Charlie’s teeth, his final visit to the veterinarian for another dental examination was pretty much solely checking up on how well the Royal Canin Dental food was working.

During Charlie’s final dental check-up, the veterinarian reported absolutely no plaque! She even shined the UV light on his teeth to make sure.

The veterinarian said Charlie had beautiful teeth, and she was pleased with the results. When comparing his dental appointment from February, what a complete difference! Charlie was happy about the news too.

This trial really taught me a lot – Charlie has found the food he loves to eat {at a slower pace}, and one which will keep his oral health in check.

I mean, look at that adorable happy dog with clean and healthy teeth! Of course our family wants the best for him!
