The last time I had the flu was at the very end of the year, in 2014. I became sick just after Christmas and only started to feel better on New Years Day 2015. Not only did I miss the festivities of New Years Eve, but this day on the calendar also marks my birthday.
Boy, did I ever miss out! Don’t Miss Out Because of Cold and Flu
During this time in which I had the flu, I literally could not get out of bed. I can’t even think of previous point in time when I felt that horrible, it was such a painful and draining experience.
Yet, we do learn through experience, and this particular one taught me that it’s worth taking any and all steps to prevent the flu. I would be a very happy Tammi if I never felt like that again!
Thing is, there is no point in time when having the cold and flu wouldn’t be an inconvenience. Think of all the things we do in a week – a day! For some, it means missed work or school, and a backlog of all duties which would have to be done at a later date. My schedule is pretty full, and cramming more in to make up for lost days makes me frantic just thinking about it!
Fact is, you could be missing out on a whole lot more than a lunch date though. Approximately 12,000 Canadians will be hospitalized this year because their flu will be so severe. Sadder yet, approximately 3,500 Canadians will die from the flu.
The flu is HIGHLY contagious and between 3.5 and 7 million people come down with the flu each year, yet 70 to 90% of flu cases can be averted through vaccination! While no vaccine is 100% effective, your best defense against the flu is getting your annual flu shot.
Flu season typically occurs from November to March or April, so NOW is the best time to get the flu shot.
Visit your local Shoppers Drug Mart pharmacy, they offer flu immunizations administered by an injection-certified pharmacist. You don’t even need to make an appointment to be that flu fighter 2015!
