My first-world problems aren’t unlike many others: you look inside the stocked pantry and claim there is nothing to eat. Usually this statement is said when hunting down a snack to fight the ravenous feeling. It could be myself around 10am or 2pm, same as the kids weekend patterns, or right after school when apparently the kids are so hungry they could die.
The choices during these times, are too often not so great ones. Quick and easy choices {read: no time to prepare}, oftentimes aren’t the healthiest and leave you starving again quickly thereafter.
You know the cycle!
Nairn’s Oat Crackers and Cookies hail from the great UK {since 1896}, from an independent Scottish company based in Edinburgh to be exact. Now, Nairn’s Oat Crackers and Cookies are available in Canada. Considering they eat up {pun intended} 80% of the UK market for oat-based products, their introduction to Canada is a pretty big deal. Welcome, eh!
Important to note, is that almost all other cookies and crackers are made with refined wheat flour {some with rice flour}, which digests very quickly. Since Nairn’s Oat Crackers and Cookies are all made from wheat free recipes with whole grain oats – they will naturally energize you throughout the day! You’ll sustain energy, feel full longer, control blood sugar, are high in fibre and so nutritionally dense. They also contain no wheat, for those who are wheat intolerant.
This makes Nairn’s great pantry-additions and healthy snacks! The brand has six delicious flavours under their name, of which we’ve been munching up lately, and trying them in a variety of ways.
Nairn’s Oat Cookies:
- Stem Ginger Oat Cookies – Nairn’s Stem Ginger Oat Cookies are bursting with flavour. Baked with stem and ground ginger, these little oaty cookies pack a real gingery punch. We make these award-winning cookies with whole grain oats that slowly release energy, making them a healthier alternative for the whole family.
- Dark Chocolate Chip Oat Cookies – Dark chocolate chips combined with crunchy oats in these Dark Chocolate Chip Oat Cookies are a truly indulgent treat. Yet we make them with whole grain oats and absolutely no hydrogenated fat making them a guilt-free, healthier option.
- Nairn’s Mixed Berries Oat Cookies – full of dried cranberries and flavoured with raspberry. These award-winning fruity cookies are literally bursting with flavour. They’re perfect as an after-school treat and indulgent enough to savour with your afternoon coffee.
Nairn’s Oat Crackers:
- Scottish Organic Oat Crackers – with organic oats grown to the Soil Association’s strict guidelines. There are so many organic whole grain oats packed into these oatcakes there’s simply not much room for anything else. Healthier for both you – and the environment.
- Scottish Cheese Oat Crackers – Some things are just made for each other — strawberries and cream, peanut butter and banana, oatcakes and cheese. Our versatile Cheese Oat Crackers are made with mature cheddar cheese, whole grain oats, and very little else.
- Scottish Oat Crackers, Roughly Milled – most popular Oat Crackers. The tempting toasted oat flavour of these Rough Oatcakes is the perfect accompaniment to many sweet or savoury toppings. Why not try them with a cheese board instead of your usual cracker?
For those times when you do have just a few minutes to prepare a snack, look to the Nairn’s recipes on their website. It’s here that I stumbled on a great idea in the the kids section. In just a couple of minutes I made my children a Banana & Honey Oaty Booster snack {I omitted the nuts}.
Simple to make and so delicious, my honey-crazed daughter said she didn’t love a snack more. Plus the Nairn’s oatcake, honey and banana made for a very nutritious and filling snack. Anything to keep the ‘I’m hungry‘ nagging at bay is great with me!
ALL Nairn’s Oat Crackers and Cookies are suitable for vegetarians and vegans, contain zero trans/hydrogenated fats; and have no added sugar, GM ingredients, artificial colours, flavourings or preservatives.
I also like that each box has individually wrapped portions, making them great to stick in ouches or tossed in the bag as you head out the door. When you need that snack that’s full of flavour and will actually do as a snack is intended – Nairn’s is a wonderful choice.
TO PURCHASE: Nairn’s Oat Crackers and Cookies are available at major grocery stores across Canada, including Loblaws, London Drugs, Sobeys, Metro, Foodland, Longo’s, Highland Farms, Whole Foods Market, Overwaitea, and independent health food stores.
CONNECT: Follow Nairn’s Canada on Facebook, they are busy sharing a lot of goodness like product information, recipe ideas, and tips. Stop by sometime and give them a warm Canadian welcome!
