When this compote cooks, the scents that fill the home are simply amazing, it’s like being wrapped in one huge comfortable blanket.

They say the most comforting smell in the home is apples, which is why realtors suggest baking a pie before showing a home.

I believe this to be true, especially when you feel that warm comfort as this cooks. A great recipe should start with that feeling, don’t you think?

Ingredients

  • 3 Apples, peeled and diced
  • Juice of 1 Orange
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 2 tbsp Pumpkin Pie Filling
  • 1 tbsp Cinnamon
  • 2 Tbsp Maple Syrup {or sugar}

Instructions

  1. Combine all the ingredients in a medium size pan, cook on medium heat, stirring often.
  2. I prefer the apples in compote to still have a little bite to them, so I only cook for 10-12 minutes. If you overcook them, they will turn out mushy.
  3. Serve warm over ice cream, oatmeal, yogurt. Don't forget to have some whipped cream on the side. Everything is better with whipped cream!

  2. I love apples. I eat one nearly every day. This sounds great, but I am sugar free, and my daughter is allergic to oranges, so I will just have to enjoy the photos.
