Right now the season is shifting to cooler, darker days – and so our need grows for comforting surrounding, clothing and foods.

Alas – bring out the sweaters and hot chocolate!

Oven Roasted Red Potatoes is a classic recipe and a favourite in your rotation, and a regular on your dinner table. For the everyday to the holiday, this is a ‘sure thing’ when it comes to a potato side dish.

This is one easy baked potato recipe that has become my favorite way to cook potatoes. This recipe makes for a delicious side dish to most any main dishes from roasts, chicken, steak and even pork tenderloin.

How to Make Oven Roasted Potatoes

It’s important to note that this recipe calls for red potatoes, but I firmly believe in preference when it comes to best results. So if you want to use Yukon Golds or Russet Potatoes, please go ahead.

Add the olive oil, garlic powder, parsley and black pepper to a large zip-top bag or large bowl. You can also add Italian seasoning, chili powder, onion powder and/or some parmesan cheese if you so wish as well. Sometimes I like to add some Kosher salt to the seasonings. Again, it’s all about preference!

Take your cleaned and cut small potatoes and pat them dry with paper towel. Then place them in the bag with your mixture.

Shake well to coat the potatoes, and place in a single layer (or even layer) into a baking dish or sheet pan. Any rimmed baking sheet will do. Then bake for 25-30 minutes at an oven temperature of 375.

They are done when the potatoes are forkable and golden brown. In the last few extra minutes I do like to cook at a high temperature so that the potato skin has crispy edges.

This time of year I love comfort meals, and especially ones which are often oven-cooked. This extends to a classic side dish that is just as good as the main that usually gets all the attention.

As much as I love the ease of cooking with the slow cooker or skillet, I love when the house is heated with the warmth of the oven. The smells filling the air for hours.

Right now holidays are just around the corner. This recipe for Oven Roasted Red Potatoes is a great one to remember come Thanksgiving to Christmas as it’s the perfect side to a hearty meal.

Truth be told, it’s a comforting meal for any night, and really, can be served with any main meat course.

From simple baked chicken breasts to a delicious roast, this is a side dish that partners with everything!

What to Serve with Oven Roasted Potatoes

It’s especially nice when I have the meat in the slow cooker, such as a whole chicken, and can cook the potatoes in the oven, and vegetables on the stove. Some say it’s too many steps but it’s all in the timing.

May I suggest these Pesto Cheese Stuffed Chicken Rolls or Slow Cooker Apricot Chicken? YUM!

It’s a recipe that leaves the skin on, which makes for a colourful dish don’t you think? Red Potatoes are so delicious and pretty! It sure adds some colour to an otherwise drab white potato.

We don’t eat too many potatoes in the summer months, instead I usually opt for salads and veggies. Perhaps only a few times through the warmer months with steak and the occasional potato salad.

Yet in the Fall and Winter months, potatoes are made more often and paired with many mains from roast to chicken. I always make more potato recipes in the fall and winter, versus the other seasons of the year.

Well, my friends, bookmark this one because this oven roasted potatoes recipe is absolute perfection! It’s become one of the most popular side dishes on this blog, and for great reason!

  6. Thank you for the reminder – time to get back to roasted potatoes! I also prefer the red once. But I always peel them. I know, all the nutrients are there, under the skin, but so is all the bad stuff, especially if they are not organic. I also want to make sure they are not green. I guess, mostly it’s a cultural thing though, Ive never seen anyone eating potatoes with skin until we moved to Canada 🙂
