Edmonton Where to Stay, Where to Play

Disclosure: I received IHG rewards points to facilitate Edmonton weekend away review. All opinions are 100% my own.

To celebrate the end of one great summer break {and before the September chaos hit full swing}, our family took a weekend trip to Edmonton Alberta. This city, and Alberta’s capital, isn’t too far from where we call home. For us it was the perfect August getaway, a weekend getaway to stay and play, and also some belated celebrating as my husband was away working on his birthday earlier int he month.

WHERE TO STAY

We stayed at Holiday Inn Express & Suites Edmonton – At The Mall, a hotel that is just a few blocks from one of Edmonton’s most popular attractions – West Edmonton Mall.

Holiday Inn Express & Suites Edmonton At The Mall review

Our family of five booked two rooms, for extra space and comfort. So, we had two rooms, one across the hall from each other. It was perfect!

The room consisted of two comfortable double beds, a toilet area and a separate sink area. It was actually a great layout for families, as there was no fighting for the bathroom when getting ready for the day.

Each room offered plenty of space for persons and all their ‘stuff’, even with a working desk area.

Each standard room at the hotel had a fridge too, which came in handy for the leftover dinner and cheesecake from the birthday dinner we had out one evening.

Of course when travelling with kids, choosing a hotel with a pool is a must. The Holiday Inn Express & Suites Edmonton – At The Mall had an ample sized pool and relaxing Jacuzzi, which was most welcome after the long days shopping at West Edmonton mall.

The very clean pool area has space to sit and rest, a really nice shower area and a bathroom area as well. There was always enough towels to go around.

Signature to Holiday Inn Express & Suites is the complimentary hot continental breakfasts, which is one of our top amenities when booking a family stay. Not only does it cut down on the food costs when travelling, but the choices are ample and everyone needs that kick-start to the day.

We were all excited to see the pancake maker at the hotel, another feature of Holiday Inn Express & Suites. At the press of a button, hot pancakes come out – this machine is such a brilliant item to have at a hotel.

For the month of August, guests could take advantage of the ‘Pancakes at Night’ promotion, and enjoy complimentary pancakes via the maker from 8-12pm every night. Supper, swim, bedtime snack? Excellent!

WHERE TO PLAY

Of course one of the best things about the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Edmonton – At The Mall, is the location. It’s just a few minutes drive from the famous West Edmonton Mall, the largest shopping mall in North America.

With hundreds of shops and restaurants, a skating rink, world water park, amusement park and so much more – it’s a mall that needs a weekend reserved. We didn’t waste any of our weekend away thanks to being so close to the mall, without the exceptional cost of staying right at the mall.

Our weekend staycation was a great chance to stay and play, and getaway from the usual hustle of life. I think more months of the year need this!

Have you ever stayed and played in Edmonton?

Sounds like you had a nice weekend away. Would love to see the West Edmonton Mall at some point but it is a bit of a drive from Ontario 🙂

I actually live about 25 mins from West Edmonton Mall and of course it’s one of the main places that visitors want to see. Especially those from Europe just can’t believe the size and that there’s an ice rink, a fun fair and a swimming pool (to mention but a few) all inside this huge complex. 🙂

We did a huge road trip this month from Victoria up to Edmonton. Had an absolute blast.

Our kids loved WEM, seeing all the sites (sea lion show, skating rink etc) and great shops like Build-A-Bear. It was the first time any of us had spend time in the city, but we are already planning our next trip!
