IHG Rewards Club – Making Holiday Dreams Come True

Disclosure: I received IHG rewards points to facilitate this post and for our upcoming hotel travel stays and reviews. All opinions are 100% my own.

….

When choosing a hotel for your holiday {or even a 1 night stay}, what is your usual pattern in booking?

I, like a lot of others would first decide on a rough location, and then scour the net finding the best deal in that area, keeping in mind which amenities are needed. After booking, I’m usually very confident and happy in my choosing, especially if I saved some money in the process.

YET, I recently realized I’m missing out on some incentives from my previous bookings, as I wasn’t using the IHG Rewards Club.

What is IHG Rewards Club?

This reward program is from the InterContinental Hotel Group (IHG). They are one of the largest hotel chains in the world with almost 4,800 hotels. IHG might not ring a lot of bells for you but the hotels in the umbrella sure will. IHG hotels in Canada are: InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, Crowne Plaza® Hotels & Resorts, Hotel Indigo®Hotels, Holiday Inn®Hotels, Holiday Inn Express®Hotels.

To earn and redeem points in the IHG Rewards Club:

Signing up is free and to start earning, simply book your hotel stay at IHG.com and get 10 points per US$ spent at the majority of properties, and 5 points per US$ at the extended-stay properties Candlewood and Staybridge Suites, that make up 11% of all IHG properties. There’s many IHG rewards promos as well.

There are tiers to earning, Gold members earn an additional 10%, Platinum members {and IHG RC credit card holders} earn an additional 50%. IHG RC members can also earn points for car rentals and with a few other partners. You can choose to earn airline rewards miles with one of 50 airlines instead – giving IHG one of the longest list of airline partners.

When redeeming rewards on IHG.com, simply book and choose to either pay the usual way, or use your points for your booking. You can use full rewards or partial combined with a payment as well.

Of course, the more you book, the more rewards you’ll earn {obviously}. I think back to all our holidays and even one-night stays when in neighbouring cities {even just for cheer competitions here and there}, and that’s a lot of rewards points that I missed out on!

Not anymore!

I have partnered with IHG this summer, for a couple of family holidays in Western Canada. They provided me with rewards points to book our holidays, and it was after diving into how the rewards work – that I realized the {years of} error in my ways.

Being a frugal and cost-effective traveller at heart, I fully admit to doing that habitual online search of hotel prices before booking our first family trip which we’re taking this week. For full disclosure, I fully anticipated to find cheaper rates on deal sites. Yet, I was shocked that booking on IHG.com was the cheapest for our booking. So, IHG.com is now most definately my go-to when booking from now on. When combined with earning rewards points – well, that just makes for smart travelling.

Watch our upcoming western Canada family trips on social media using the #HIPrairies hashtag, I’ll be sharing more about IHG and their hotels in which we’ll be staying.

To stay in the loop, follow @IHGRewardsClub on Twitter and get acquainted with a great program that makes your next and future holidays – even better.
