Lay’s Do Us a Flavour Contest

Spring break is finally here for us Albertans! Since we just got back from a trip to the US, we’ll be spending our spring break close to home. I’m thinking a lot of relax time, little afternoon trips and many movie nights! In fact, we kicked off spring break with an early dinner, PJs and some quiet time with a movie – cuddled up on the couch. After a busy March, some downtime is highly needed, for us all.

Yet this time of year is also when I really start to daydream about the summer. In fact, I can close my eyes and picture it right now ….

The sun is shining and the heat is intense. The kids are running around on the grass with the sprinkler on, while we are entertaining guests on the deck. The grill is on, drinks served and we enjoy great conversation in between handfuls of tasty chips.

Yet, what flavour of chips?

Myself, I prefer Ketchup or Dill Pickle – they’ve always been my favourites since I was young. My husband on the other hand, would reach for Smoky BBQ or Roast Chicken – he’s one to like some spice and heat. On our recent movie night, my girls chose Lay’s BBQ Kettle Chips, which surprised me since they are usually a classic chip-chooser.

Do you have a favourite Lay’s flavour, or do you like to try new varieties each time? Perhaps you have an idea for a chip flavour that would be a total winner!

It’s that time of year again Canadians! Lay’s Canada has launched the third edition of its blockbuster contest, Lay’s® Do Us a Flavour™ (#DoUsAFlavourCanada). From now until April 22, consumers can submit ideas for the next great potato chip flavour at Lays.ca/Flavour.

Previous Canadian winners include Jalapeño Mac N’ Cheese on Lay’s Wavy by Randall Litman in 2014 and Maple Moose on Lay’s Original by Tyler LeFrense in 2013.

In celebration of the nation’s favourite foods and the places that remind Canadians of their yummiest flavour experiences, this year the Lay’s brand is asking fans to embrace the Tastes of Canada and be inspired by a Canadian region – Western Canada, Ontario, Quebec or Atlantic Canada. The winner of this years Lay’s Do Us a Flavour contest will take home $50,000 CDN plus one per cent of their flavour’s future sales (after a voting period).

Wait a minute … an incredible cash prize, ultimate bragging rights AND a percentage of sales?

In fact, I have a lot of chip-inspiration right here in my recipe box. I’m thinking my Jalapeño Bacon Grilled Cheese sandwich recipe would be a great flavour for a chip. Cheesy, spicy with that smoky bacon flavour? YUM!

Yet, I wouldn’t pass up some Spinach and Artichoke Dip chips either. Straight from my appetizer recipes here on My Organized Chaos – this recipe would be a chip-hit! Cheese, spinach, artichoke with cream cheese … and now I’m drooling!

Have an idea for a new chip?

From now until April 22, 2015 fans can submit their flavour ideas at Lays.ca/Flavour, by texting the word FLAVOUR to 101010 or by mail. To submit a flavour idea, fans will be asked to provide a flavour name, up to three ingredients, a chip style (Original, Wavy and/or Kettle Cooked), a flavour inspiration (140 characters max) and the Canadian region that inspired their submission.

Submissions will be narrowed down to four finalist flavours that represent each region by a judging panel before being made available in stores nationwide later this summer. In addition, each finalist will each receive $5,000.

New this year, the Lay’s brand is rewarding fans with personalized, sharable videos featuring their flavours. Videos will be customized based on the name, ingredients and region of inspiration. Fans can also have fun with the microsite’s Flavour Showdown, a fun way to see flavours that have been submitted by Canadians from coast-to-coast and declaring which ones you’d like to eat. Canadians can select the flavour they like best and click on an I’d Eat That! button. Flavour submissions can also be shared using the hashtag#DoUsAFlavourCanada – on Facebook {LaysCanada}, Twitter {@LaysCanada}, Pinterest, Tumblr, Google+ and Instagram (mobile, LaysCanada).

Since this popular contest started, almost 2 million flavour ideas from chip fans coast to coast were submitted. This year Lay’s has teamed up with celebrity chef, Antoine Sicotte to help inspire Canadians and get their creative juices flowing. Known as the “Rebel Chef”, Antoine first started his career confounding and starring in the Canadian pop band SKY, a Juno-award winning group. Now a successful celebrity chef based out of Montreal, Antoine has three cook books (one best selling) and three TV shows (a fourth taping this summer) showcasing his love for food and flavour exploration.

  1. I entered a couple of flavours because Lay’s chips are the only snack I eat!! They are gluten Free!! I am a huge Lay’s Fan!! One flavour I submitted was Canadian Bacon!! 🙂

  2. I’m with you on the pickle and ketchup. My two faves. Hard to say what to suggest, they have their marketing ideas I’m sure.

  3. I would enter peanut butter and chocolate if I could but they won’t let you enter any peanut butter flavours-so I can’t!
