If there’s one constant winter after winter – it’s the use of my slow cooker. Also known as ‘my saviour’, this small appliance fits perfectly with my busy schedule and tackles the majority of the work for me so I can tend to other things in my day.
There’s nothing better than going from school to cheerleading {or Gymnastics, or dance} and coming home to a cooked meal. I still recall how coming home to my Slow Cooker Apricot Chicken cooked and waiting, simply made the day.
Thanks to slow cooker recipes, I don’t have as many frantic kitchen pacing episodes of ‘what to make for dinner‘, right at dinnertime.
One favourite that we have made a couple times this winter is Slow Cooker Orange Chicken. I’d also call this a healthier version of a traditional, since oftentimes Orange Chicken is deep-fried. Yet not my One Pan Orange Chicken that uses oranges, so check that one out.
I love the zest of the citrus with the ginger and garlic. Served over rice and a side of your favourite vegetable, Slow Cooker Orange Chicken would also pair nicely with a stir-fry.
This recipe was inspired by Kraft Canada, with just a couple additions and changes – mainly to suit our family’s taste. It’s a little sticky, a tad sweet and full of comforting flavour!

I tried in my slow cooker but since no one in my home eats thighs I used skinless chicken breast. I cut it up coated it with flour and added the other ingredients. Put it on high for 3.5 hours. But the meat dried out should I have decreased the time since using breast. The,sauce was really good though.

I can’t wait to try this! Our slow cooker is our saving grace during cold, long winter months and our busy schedules!
The store didn’t carry Kraft brand Marmalade at the grocery store last night so had to go store brand and surprisingly the Kraft BBQ sauce was almost cleared out too, I think I grabbed the second to last bottle of regular.
Proof that we are all still crazy enough to BBQ in this blizzard we have been having I guess!

Still tasted great, but I wound up adding the green onion and sesame seeds to the crock pot when I read “add remaining ingredients…”
I have made similar mistakes with other recipes when I don’t read them through once first.
Moral of the story: Read all the way through the recipe before beginning to cook.
Heather says
This didn’t taste like orange chicken at all. I followed the recipe but all I could taste was BBQ sauce. My boyfriend liked and it did taste okay, but I was going more for an orange flavor and not a bbq, as I’m not a huge fan of bbq sauce. Maybe next attempt I’ll exclude the bbq or put way less.
