It would be hard for me to find someone that didn’t buy chocolates during the holiday season. We have them on hand for evening treats after a long day of merry-making, for guests, as gifts, for the stocking and a whole lot of baking!
So what’s new and hot in the world of chocolate-love for Christmas 2014?
Nestle has some amazing choices on the shelves right now!
For the kids, cause they need that fun colourful package to heighten the chocolate excitement, with AERO, CRUNCH and Smarties treats inside. I can totally see these unwrapped but placed on presents from Santa, a little morning surprise gift from the North Pole.
Also available is individually wrapped MACKINTOSH Toffee bites in a collector tin. You can’t go wrong here, in fact, I can’t even keep my husband out of them. This uniquely chewy, creamy, toffee is made using high quality, non-artificial ingredients like milk, butter and sugar.
Yet, I also like to stock up on the MACKINTOSH Toffee bars, I use these and only these in my holiday Goo Balls recipe. I recently made these for our holiday season, let’s hope they last until Christmas!
Savour the Mmm Moment this season with friends and family with TURTLES. Always a holiday favourite, TURTLES are a common and popular choice for gifting and having out for guests to enjoy.
To change up the classic and add that special touch of ‘nom, nom – so good‘, there are some special varieties out right now. Take note, guys, these are heaven in every bite! Available in elegant holiday packs and ready to gift are Praline Cheesecake, Pecan Fudge Brownie and Pecan Praline {hello, sweet and salty}. It’s ok, go back and read those flavours one more time, cheesecake .. fudge … oh my!
My fave is the Pecan Fudge Brownie – I cannot resist the chunks of fudge brownie, cocoa-dusted praline pecans and dark chocolate!
Yet, you can also use these in baking, including this delicious treat below. Making 20 popcorn balls, this recipe is great for yourself, to share with guests, or packaged up and given as gifts – this one is sure to please!
TURTLES Pecan Praline Popcorn Balls
Ingredients
- ¾ cup light corn syrup
¼ cup butter
2 teaspoons cold water
1 cup marshmallows
20 cups plain popped popcorn
2 cups of TURTLES Pecan Praline, coarsely chopped
Instructions
- In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine corn syrup, butter, cold water and marshmallows. Heat and stir until mixture comes to a boil.
- Carefully combine hot mixture with popcorn, coating each kernel. Remove from heat.
- Allow the mixture to cool slightly (approximately three to five minutes), then mix in TURTLES Pecan Praline pieces.
- Before it cools completely, grease hands with shortening or butter and quickly shape the coated mixture into balls.
- Wrap with plastic wrap and store at room temperature.

I love turtles chocolate. They always have been a must at Christmas time in our house, and still is! So I love cheesecake and love pralines, so when I saw the sample booth at the grocery store I had to try them! They were good but I found them very sweet. But that could be good because then I wouldn’t eat the whole box myself at once! 🙂
