I’ve talked about my twins mad love for Barbie movies before, their collection is vast and they watch them over and over again. When compared to other types of movies, the Barbie films takes the cake when it comes to the music and songs.
When my girls aren’t watching the movies, they sing songs from them all day long. For my two, who have struggled with speech and language, any vocal practice is good practice. Plus, each movie teaches kids great life lessons and important values.
Before I even knew about its release, the girls told me about Barbie And The Secret Door. Excited chatter over the characters and desperately wanting it, lasted for weeks. So, when a copy arrived at our door for review, it was like Christmas for my twins.
Barbie stars as Alexa, a shy princess who discovers a secret door in her kingdom and enters a whimsical land filled with magical creatures and surprises. Inside, Alexa meets Romy and Nori, a mermaid and a fairy, who explain that a spoiled ruler named Malucia is trying to take all the magic in the land. To her surprise, Alexa has magical powers in this world, and her new friends are certain that only she can restore their magic.
Discover what happens when Alexa finds the courage to stand up for what’s right and learns that the power of friendship is far more precious than magic.
That last bit of the synopsis is what I appreciate. School just started again and it’s a good time to reinforce the value of friendships and standing up for whats right.
Now, ask the girls and it’s all about fairies, princesses and mermaids and they love that this movie has all of them in it. In fact, before they watch it, they collaborate on ‘whos being who’. Apparently my girls like to divvy out the characters like they themselves are apart of the story and apart of the adventure. Not just watching, but active participants. Sure this is cute, but it also tells me that the movie message is being relayed.
Barbie And The Secret Door DVD is now available on Blu-ray/DVD from Universal Studios Home Entertainment.
