Trains and train sets are a relatively new thing to me. My oldest never took interest in trains at all. So, years ago when my twins showed great interest in ‘all things Thomas’, I scrunched my face with a ‘well, this is unexpected … Now what?’.
Katie in particular, cannot get enough of trains. She adores Thomas the Tank Engine, has a look of ‘OMG’ when she spots the real thing. She is the child that is often seen with a doll in one hand and a train toy in the other.
So, when Fisher-Price sent a package our way, with not one but two new Thomas train sets – my girls {especially Katie} was EXCITED!
I put the Thomas and Friends Take-n-play Thomas’ Adventure Castle Track set away for a cold Winter day, and we put together the Thomas & Friends TrackMaster Castle Quest.
Quite honestly, it wasn’t the easiest set to put together. Being instructions-people, we just couldn’t master what parts went where {evidence right there that I didn’t do this with my oldest}.
It was actually my kids themselves that took matters into their own hands and assembled the set by looking at the photos on the box. Determined little conductors, they are.
Quoting my kids as they played with it for the first time, ‘best toy ever!’.
Really? A train set? My girls?
I had to investigate their play a little more, how could my girly-girls possibly label the Thomas & Friends TrackMaster Castle Quest set as ‘best toy ever’?
I sat in the living room and watched my girls play. WOW. This set is pretty neat, I could see how much fun they were having and why they loved it so much.
Thomas zooms on the track, turning corners, winding along. Up the ramp them WOOSH, down into the mountain where he collects a crown from a hidden rock in the hillside. Into the train car it goes and off he goes again.
Keep this set in mind for the upcoming holidays, friends. For boys who love Thomas and even for the little girly-girls that freeze in amazement when they see trains – this one is going to be a gifting hit!
More Thomas news to share: It’s a new DVD!
The King of the Railway DVD {available in both English & French} will be released on September 24th, 2013. Make note of this one too, it’ll be great for stockings!
Join Thomas & his friends as they embark on a legendary movie adventure! The steam team’s quest begins when a special guest arrives on Sodor with a big surprise and important jobs for Thomas, Percy and James.
The engines meet new friends and discover suits of armour; coats of arms, and legends of long-ago heroes. Then, their bravery is put to the test when their new friend Stephen goes missing! Will Thomas find him in time? Will the engines discover the truth about the Island of Sodor’s biggest mystery? It’s a crusade of knightly proportion for Thomas & Friends in this epic movie!

Your daughter looks like she’s having a blast with the train! I never had one, nor did my brother..weird huh? lol
Tammi says
Not weird, I didn’t and I don’t recall my friends having one either when I was young. Maybe to huge allure is that it’s unlike all their other toys?! 😉
also – that is my train-lover right there!
Chelsea Day says
Oh my boys love their Thomas the train set. I will have to grab the movie for a Christmas gift.
Tammi says
I’ll be picking one up as well!
Grace Hodgin says
I love Thomas the train and think he is such a great character. I had a train set when I was a little girl and think all girls should have the opportunity to play with them. Love the movies.
Tammi says
So true, Grace. I think a lot of times kids are pressured to stick to their own ‘gender’, the problem I see is that it limits their imaginations. Maybe my little one will work for CP Rail one day!

When my boys were younger they loved Thomas. I can remember them playing for hours with the metal trains, all with different names, making up different stories with them. It brings back memories for me.

Good for your girls taking interest in trains! I can’t say I’ve ever heard of girls really being interested in trains before but it’s about time some spirited young ladies such as your beautiful twins broke that stereotype ^.^
