Wreck-It Ralph Review: Ultimate Collectors Edition

WreckItRalph Review

Ever since seeing Wreck-It Ralph in the theatres, my kids had asked and asked {and asked} when it was coming out DVD. Needless to say, they really enjoyed the movie and couldn’t wait to watch it a gazillion times at home.

Speaking of repetition, You don’t even want to know how many times a day I am asked by my kids, “Why are your hands so freakishly big?“. And yes, I play along each time and answer, “I don’t know, why are you so freakishly annoying?“.

It was this quote that caught their attention before seeing the film, and one that still has them in giggles, even a thousand times later. Gotta love Disney movies for bringing out the kid in us all!

Wreck-It Ralph DVD Review Disney

What I liked about Wreck-It Ralph is that it’s unlike your standard Disney film. The story is based on the characters popular and favorite video games. Yet, you don’t need to be a ‘todays gamer’ to appreciate the cast. Parents will love seeing Q*Bert, PAC-MAN, a few Street Fighter characters and even King Koopa. Nostalgia!

Yet it’s the storyline that I also find clever and unique. Here’s the Synopsis:

From Walt Disney Animation Studios, “Wreck-It Ralph” takes viewers on a hilarious journey. For decades, Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly) has played the bad guy in his popular video game. In a bold move, he embarks on an action-packed adventure and sets out to prove to everyone that he is a true hero with a big heart. As he explores exciting new worlds, he teams up with some unlikely new friends including feisty misfit Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman). The film is directed by Emmy®-winner Rich Moore.

While the girls didn’t get Q*Bert nor my excitement over spotting some of the characters, they all loved everything about Sugar Rush. While they did state it was a lot like Mario Kart, they were especially taken by Vanellope von Schweetz and all the other girls. Candy? Lots of Pink? Girl Power? ‘Nuff said.

My girls are so happy to have the Wreck-It Ralph Ultimate Collectors Edition, and have watched it a few times now since it came weeks ago. Great for movie nights at home or for taking on the go {in the car or as a digital copy}, which is why I love this specific set. As always you also get the amazing bonus features {alternate and deleted scenes etc}, yet my favorite is the the theatrical short “Paperman”. You have to watch it it’s so adorable and heart-warming.

Now the big question – should you see this film? Yes! Should you add it to your Disney movie collection? Certainly! Keep this one in mind for birthday gifts {etc} or to watch on family movie night soon.

    1. The twins hid their eyes when the ‘robot spider’ part came on, but that was short. They understood that it’s a movie, I think they were just more scared that Ralph was going to get hurt. 2nd time they watched it, they were fine.
