Last month many people made New Year resolutions, and I bet a lot of them have to do with eating better and exercising. Well, it’s now mid-January, how are those resolutions going?
Myself, I didn’t make any resolutions this year. Of course I have goals and plans, things I’d like to see happen in the next year. Yet, the pressure of adding the term, ‘resolution’ almost dooms a wish to failure. Instead, I make a list and plan to evaluate that list often, with full intent of succeeding. Small steps.
Another reason why I didn’t have exercise goals is because I started January with bang, a trip to the OR for a Cholecystectomy. My wish for the new year was not to run a marathon, but just to heal fast enough to maybe end January with more movement than I started. Despite some setbacks and a lot of pain, things are looking up, and I can finally walk a little, upright. Again, small steps.
Sometimes it’s those small steps that are the key in success. So, if your new year resolution was to run that marathon, instead maybe start with a 20 minute walk each day. Need some motivation and support?
February 29th is The Fiber 1 Chill Challenge, presented by The Running Room. They are calling people to walk or run for at least 20 minutes that day. It’s an opportunity for anyone to get active, despite the cold winter. Why? I’m sure I don’t have to convince you to the fact that people get out and walk less in the Winter as compared to the summer. I can speak for myself only, and I know that fact is true! But, it’s one day. 20 minutes. I think we can all do that. And, despite my January setback, I pretty sure I’ll be able to participate too.
To get involved, register for the Chill Challenge. The first 10,000 people that register, get a free toque!
