Sharp PCI Air Purifier

Last year I was blown away when I reviewed the Sharp PCI Air Purifier {KCC100U}. At first I thought it would be hard to review a home air purifier, since do you really know if it’s working or not? I actually witnessed this air purifier in all it’s glory when forest fires filled our entire province with smoke. You could see the haze even in our house and the air smelled terrible. Back then my Sharp PCI Air Purifier {KCC100U model} showed that the air was extremely poor in the house and within 20 minutes on high setting, the haze and smell were gone entirely from my house and the display registered 80% cleaner air that minutes before. Since that day, I know that air purifiers work, and am a firm believer in the Sharp Air Purifiers.

So, when offered the chance to review a smaller unit, the Sharp PCI Air Purifier FPA40CW, I was eager. Though this model doesn’t come with the humidifying option like the counterpart mentioned previously, it still has some impressive functions:

  •  Recommended Room Size up to 200sq.ft (approx. 12’ x 17’)
  • Triple Stage Filtration System
  • HEPA, Active Carbon, Pre-Filter
  • 3 Fan Speeds (High/Med/Low)
  • Library Quiet™ – as low as 29dB
  • Long Life HEPA Filter (up to 2 years)
  • CADR Dust 140/Smoke 129/Pollen 160
  • ENERGY STAR Qualified
  • Unique Combination of Air Treatment Technologies
  • Triple Filtration System + Plasmacluster Ion

TRAPS DUST *
Washable pre-filter traps dust and other large airborne particles.

DECREASES ODORS
Deodorizing filter absorbs many common household odours.

REDUCES POLLEN & MOLD*
HEPA filter traps 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns.

FRESHENS
Plasmacluster refreshes the air similar to the way nature cleans the environment by emitting a balance of positive and negative ions.

I currently have my Sharp PCI Air Purifier KCC100U {the bigger} model in my kitchen, in fact if you are a regular reader of My Organized Chaos, you’ll most likely see this air purifier in all the photos I have posted showing my kitchen, since then!

Yet, I wasn’t entirely certain that the bigger model had the reach to clean our basement air, so that’s where my Sharp PCI Air Purifier FPA40CW calls home. With us making the downstairs living room more confortable and with the kids’ playroom down there, we spend more and more time down there. And, let’s face it, basements tend to draw in the ‘stink’ when it comes to parts of the home that aren’t the freshest smelling. I dust down there less {ahem, yes, I’m honest}, vacuum down there less frequent that the upstairs and just the smells from the laundry and furnace room are less than stellar sometimes.

Thanks to Sharp, I now have a Plasmacluser-Ion army in the large basement space {pictured to left, with the bear to display size of product}. I trust when the display tells me that the air is clean,as you can easily tell when it isn’t. A good test is to just walk by and fluff your clothes over the air purifier. Within seconds, the dropped dust is detected and the display changes color as a result. Then, after another few seconds of it running, the air is clean again.

My final thoughts? If you’d like to clean a large space and you could use some humidity in your home, definately check out the larger Sharp PCI Air Purifier KCC100U model, which has a ARV $399. Actually, Sharp’s air purifiers with humidifying function are the only product line on the market that combine a humidifier and air purifier {Gee, over a year later and I still will boast how much I adore this product? Yes, I do!}. But, if you don’t need the humidifying option and would like a more compact machine in your home, go with the Sharp PCI Air Purifier FPA40CW. At at retail cost of $199.99, it’s a great product – for your own health, safety and comfort!
