Stlto Wine

Once in a while, I like to relax after a long day with a glass of wine {and enjoy the peace}. My husband, who loves wine more than I, even makes his own varieties. One entire wall in our basement is even a wine rack. Yet, with both our bust schedules lately, making our own hasn’t happened in a while. So, it’s always fun for us to try new brands on the market. One brand which neither hubby or I have tried before is STLTO wine, so we were eager to give it a taste-test!

Sarah Libertore, an Italian-Canadian is the founder of SLTO, choosing 40-year old vines for her wines. Sarah’s intention was to have the collection embody what Italy is known best for: fashion and wine. So, with a sleek and stylish bottle, a glitter cap and a fabulous pair of stiletto’s on the label – the bottle itself sure does catch attention. But what about the taste?

STLTO White is one that doesn’t leave the pucker face, yet isn’t so sweet that it would infringe on a fruity wine. I agree with the description: an un-oaked chardonnay with bright grapefruit flavours and aromas of white peach and lemon chiffon. For those that prefer a white wine that doesn’t leave that dry mouth effect, this one is a great choice.

The STLTO Red is a Malbec/Merlot blend with layers of juicy fruit flavours and aromas of black cherry, plum and bittersweet chocolate. The red is what my husband immediately went for, being a true fan of Merlot. His usual preference is ‘the drier the better’, yet he really liked the mild fruit taste of the STLTO Red. Myself, I adore this wine the best, for being that red wine that isn’t tart, yet has that mild fruit-taste.

Summer is drawing near so our days of enjoying a glass of wine on the deck are numbered. Yet, STLTO would make a nice compannion on a cold winternight by the fire! Hey, you gotta look on the bright side when winter draws near, right? Unfortunately as yet, STLTO wine is only available in Ontario at LCBO stores {for the price of $11.95 per bottle}, yet I do hope to find it in the other provinces soon.

For those in the eastern half of Canada, pair either the STLTO white or red with a great meal; shared with your partner or with a group of your best friends! I found a wonderful recipe for Sangria {found on the STLTO Facebook Page}. Normally Sangria is a summer drink, yet again, there will be plenty of holiday parties coming up and this would make a nice addition to your evening. Enjoy!

STLTO Sangria
Ingredients
  • 8 cups STLTO RED
  • 8 cups apple juice
  • 1 small grapefruit, cut into eights
  • 1 medium orange, peeled and sliced thin crosswise
  • 1 medium lemon, peeled and sliced thin crosswise
  • 1/2 cup green seedless grapes
  • 1 small pear, finely diced
  • 1 medium apple, finely diced
Instructions
  1. Combine the wine, apple juice, and grapefruit pieces in a large pitcher, glass is best. Mix well, cover and refrigerate overnight. The following day, add the orange and lemon slices to the wine and refrigerate for about 3 more hours. Add the pear and apple to the mixture, then allow to stand for 1 more hour so that all of the flavors are absorbed well. Add the grapes, stir well and serve over ice.
