Healthier Alternative to Chips, Popchips

Need a Healthier Alternative to Chips? It was in the blogosphere that I was first introduced to Popchips. I read about this healthier alternative to chips and was interested – after all, I crave chips sometimes and was open to the idea of a better choice. So, when offered the chance to try out popchips, I was game.

How are they ‘healthier’?

Popchips are all-natural “popped” chips are made from wholesome potatoes, with a hint of natural seasonings. They are not baked nor fried, but rather popped in an innovative new method that uses heat and pressure. Besides cooking method, it’s what’s inside that is different too. When compared to an ingredient list of ‘regular’ bags of chips, you can at least recognize and pronounce the popchips’ ingredients. There are no preservatives, trans fats, cholesterol, hydroginated oils or other ‘questionable ingredients’. They also have half the fat of other conventional chips and one bag is only 100 calories {and they aren’t the teeny-tiny small bags either}. So, Popchips are friendlier on the body and gives the guilt a break too.

How do Popchips taste?

We got to try seven varieties, and these award winning Popchips are good! I was skeptical at first, but really surprised at how they tasted just like my favorite brand of chips. They have that classic crunch you are looking for in a chip – and are full of flavor. Hubby and I agreed that the Salt and Pepper flavor is our favorite, yet bbq is a close second. I’m not a fan of cheese chips, so I let hubby do the testing with the Cheddar Potato. He said they were ‘extremely cheesy’. I wasn’t a huge fan of the Sea Salt and Vinegar Potato flavor, I found them a little bland for my taste {they could have more of that vinegar taste}.

Ultimately though, Wwen choosing chips in my store – I would certainly reach for Popchips again, especially the Salt & Pepper bag!
