Introducing Peanut Butter

Recently I decided to let the twins try out Peanut Butter. You see, due my husband’s severe nut allergy, my doctor and pediatrician thought it best to withhold these foods for a few years longer than most other kids. I was really eager to introduce this food when finally given the go-ahead. I assumed it would become an easy lunch and snack solution which is packed with protein and nutrients.

So, after many years of enjoying peanut butter solo in this house, I finally gave some to the twins.

And….they hate it.
Sophia just looked at me as if to say, “Are you really expecting me to eat this?”
And Katie screamed, “Ewwww….GROSS!”

Hmmm, didn’t excpect that one.
Guess I’m still enjoying it solo.

Anyone else’s kids NOT like peanut butter??

My oldest son loves it but in Ontario not allowed to bring it to school. My 12 year old is disgusted by it. My 5 year old used to like it but right now doesn’t.

That’s too funny! I remember your Christmas post. At least your hubby won’t have any allergic reactions from getting kisses!

Should also mention that I read sometimes it takes up to 20 times of introducing a food before they’ll accept it.

My oldest son won’t go near the stuff. The younger one would eat it every meal. But the both love Nutella. Have you tried almond butter or peanut butter and jam? The almond butter is not as strong a taste. Hey! at least you got cute pictures out of it 🙂

    My kids love it!

Things to try: Well there is almond butter, which is much milder then peanut butter. It’s also slightly better for you. There’s also Hazelnut butter that tastes a lot like a chocolate spread.

I don’t see any jam on the toast? lol
My husband is addicted to peanut butter. Introduced our 2 year old to it about 2 months ago and he loves it. Just dips crackers into it and eats it. I’ve noticed that he prefers crunchy texture vs. smooth. Maybe try experimenting with textures. Our favorite is the one you can make/grind in the store yourself. Not too smooth and not too crunchy.

We had to remove all peanut butter from our house when my daughter turned up with a peanut allergy when she was 18 months old. I wondered how in the world I would be able to raise my family without Peanut butter! LOL! It’s been tough, but maybe it’s not a bad thing that they don’t like it… it will make school lunches less precarious! 🙂

I’m American but am currently living in Ireland. NOBODY here likes peanut butter! Last year I made buckeyes for Christmas, as has always been my family’s tradition. For those that don’t know, buckeyes are peanut butter and powdered sugar balls dipped in chocolate. They are amazing!! They’re also the Official State Candy of Ohio (my home state). So I made them, thinking they would be the hit of the holiday and I’d convert everybody who tried them to peanut butter lovers. WRONG! Nobody liked them except my husband (and he’ll eat anything!). I was shocked, and I still don’t get it. The good thing? More for me!!

I guess that if you don’t grow up eating it, it’s a bit like marmite. Love it or hate it…and if you make it through childhood without peanut butter, chances are you will hate it as an adult.
