The NutriSystem Difference

I have been on the NutriSystem program now for 4 weeks, and I am so thrilled with my experience so far. This week, I’d like to tell you a little about my exercise routine. NutriSystem recommends regular exercise while on the program, and I agree that the key to weight management has to include two factors: diet and exercise.

I am one that has always exercised regularly {except in the latter stages of my twin pregnancy}. Before the Twins, I woke each day at 5:00am and worked out before leaving for work. After the twins came, I found it very difficult to fit in regular exercise. Let it be known right now, that I do have, what I consider, a full gym at my home. I have a treadmill, elliptical, balance ball, videos, weights and at that gear. Yet, working out at home never agreed with my twins. It never failed, when I tried to workout during naps, they woke up – Interruption. So, I tried working out with them playing in the room. They would constantly want something or try to hop on with me – Interruption. I found it very discouraging that I could never find uninterrupted time to really focus on what I was doing. So I gave up.

Then in October, my friend and I joined a gym. We were both really excited since it has a daycare and their childcare is what I consider really cheap. As in, ‘how could you not?’ cheap. Even though I am well equipped at home to exercise {it really doesn’t take much equipment to do it, either}, I choose to go to the gym every weekday, right after I drop off my oldest at school. This not only gives me the uninterrupted time I need, but it’s also a break from the twins and they get social interaction with other children. Plus, a few more friends have joined the gym with us since last year, and we all meet and encourage one another. It’s my time away, my time to get fit and a great chance to catch up with friends and get the support I need.

One day, when the twins are older, I’m sure I’ll make use of all the equipment I have at home. But for now, this is what works for me. And it works well. I go 5 days a week {unless someone is sick or has an appointment}, and I look forward to going. To be the most successful when getting regular exercise, you have to find a balance that works for you. One that fits your lifestyle and schedule.

When I first joined the gym last October, I went regularly, yet didn’t adjust my diet. Even after 3 months of going to the gym, I didn’t see 1 pound of weight loss. I admit, I felt better and carried myself better – yet I was disappointed to see that the scale didn’t reflect my hard work. And I am a person that wanted to see the numbers! My trainer said I was gaining a lot of muscle, yet it was time to focus on nutrition in order to lose the fat. So, I had developed a healthy exercise habit, yet it was time to change what I was taking in….

After starting the NutriSystem program, I have learned so much about portion control and balance of food groups. I finally see all my hard work pay off! And, I cannot wait to continue my journey and reach the goal that I have dreamed of for so long!

  1. Congrats on the 11 lb weight loss. I’ve been talking about working out at home for a while but with the little one running around it’s been difficult. So, at the beginning of this month I joined the gym at work and it has been THE BEST! I can get away from my desk for a little while and I’m refreshed when I get home. I should have joined sooner.

  2. That was my situation, I tried doing it at home for the longest time, and it wasn’t working.
Wow, It’s so convenient for you to have a gym at work!
I read an article that said that businesses with gyms and daycares on location experienced higher workplace safety, more productive workers and less sick time {I think just having their children so close would make any parent happier}.
Sounds like you found your balance, great for you!!

  3. Congrats on the loss! I know it feels great. I have been on the Atkins diet for 9 days and have lost 8 lbs. It has taken a lot of adjustment and willpower! Now I find that I don’t need the foods that I thought I once did. I have 4 children ranging from 15- almost 3. They keep me very busy and in the car a lot. I do not have exercise equipment, but I have something better…..a Wii. All of the Just Dance games make me work up a sweat, and they are fun for the entire family. I don’t have to workout without the kids, but I do even more when they are at school or during nap time. I think the reason many people lose interest in exercise is that is is no longer fun, not to mention inconvenient. Thanks for the blog. It is nice to know I am not alone.

    1. I agree, Paula – you have to mix it up and keep it fresh and fun. My daughter and I do the Wii fitness games together, it’s a workout for sure. Especially the boxing!

  4. WooHoo Tammi, congrats on the 11lb thus far! Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my blog too:) I am loving all the support!
Have you tried the exercise DVD that comes with Nutrisystem? I am a huge fan of Leslie Sansone! I live in a small town, with no access to a gym, so this is a fantastic way for me to get a workout in. Also, I use the Wii Fit Plus!

    1. Ahh, yes – I had the same problem with the Wii Fit Plus – the twins always tried jumping on with me! Same frustrations as with the treadmill!
I hadn’t heard of Leslie Sansone until I got the DVD, had to do some reading up. Glad it’s helping you, small town living hinders gym options. Yet there’s plenty of opportunity to walk – that is, if the weather cooperates!

  6. Good for you!! I find dieting much easier than exercise.. for me anyway. LOL I joined a couple gyms in the past and never used them. But, I totally get what you’re saying about not being able to work out at home. It is hard when you’re being pulled in a million different directions. Good luck with the rest of your journey!

  7. Hurray!!!!

this is just great! And good for you being about to work out.

    Keep up the good work.

  8. That is great of how much weight you lost. I used to belong to a gym and i enjoyed going. I was not seeing weight loss but the one thing my Husband had noticed was i was looking more toned and that in its self makes you feel good and thinner. But i gave up the gym. I lost my motivation. Things in my life that were going on i guess.
Keep up the great work and don’t lose the motivation.
