Nutrisystem, Losing Weight after a Twin Pregnancy

Nutrisystem and Logo

Here I am on my second week on the NutriSytem diet, and I have to say – it is going great! I didn’t know what to expect, had no idea what the food tasted like, and wondered how I’d do on such a program. And that, my friends, is why I took on this weight loss challenge. I know there are millions of people that see the commercials and wonder what it’s really like. You hear of the celebrities that succeed, but question whether their personal trainers and abundance of help solely contributed to their successes. Here I am, a Mom, and an ordinary one at that. I wanted to give my readers an honest review – from someone who’s life, may be similar to yours.

I had, in the past, lost weight after my first pregnancy by using a diet program. It wasn’t anything like NutriSystem, yet it required monitoring of intake and drastically changing the kinds of food I ate. Not in a detrimental-to-your-health kind of way, but let’s just say I ate a lot of homemade oatmeal and soups. I had the time and energy to focus on this diet, and I succeeded. And, I had kept that weight off.

Although never ‘thin’ by any means, I have always been active. I actually enjoy {no joke} exercising regularity through gyms, my own home exercise equipment and videos. When I became pregnant for the second time, I continued my usual exercise regime, altered slightly due to being pregnant. Then it started to become painful. Simple moves which should have been easy cause me so much pain, it was horrendous! I ceased my usual workout routine as per doctors’ orders and it was at my first ultrasound A person standing in front of a window{at 21 weeks}, that I found out I was having Twins. My Twin pregnancy went smoothly, with no complications besides the fact of being huge! I mean, I couldn’t fit into my regular pants at 8 weeks pregnant, you can only imagine how much my body stretched! The photo posted is myself, 5 months pregnant with the Twins {amazing what a M.O.M can endure!} But, I still moved and kept as active as I could. In fact, I was gardening 2 days before their arrival. Yet, an emergency c-section {baby A kicked out baby B, backwards} and an infected incision changed everything. I swelled beyond belief {AKA, could not walk}, required daily home care for months yet somehow managed to parent my oldest and 2 newborns. I took on the chaos that was thrown at me, but I let myself go in the process….

I did what Mothers always seem to do at some point – I made everything and everyone else a priority. And I put myself on hold.

It’s now time to take back my life, learn how to focus on myself again. My journey has only begun!

  2. WOW! Great job. And holy cow I could not imagine being pregnant with twins. I thought I was a fat cow with just 1. Actually the term I used at the end of the pregnancy was “house”. I was a giant house.

    1. House…ya, I was an apartment complex. lol
Growing 2 babies takes up a whole lotta room, yikes!

  3. Wow, way to go on 5lb Tammi! Sounds like a great start to your journey! What exercise routines are you incorporating along with Nutrisystem? If any? (sorry for the assumption)

  4. That is awesome Tammi! I had the easiest time getting the weight off after pregnancy. I was nursing, and I didn’t even have to think about it.

congrats on your first successful week!!

    1. Heather, I have one delicious piece of ice cream cake in my freezer, left over from my birthday. I have peeked on it a few times, but surprisingly, I haven’t touched it!
Maybe one day when I know it won’t throw me completely off course.
Good luck tomorrow, I’ll stop by your blog and check in.
      🙂

  5. Holy cow 5 Lbs lost in a week?!?! Talk about a moral boost. I may have to try this! I have 8 kids and have a lot of pregnancy leftovers. I don’t have any twins but I had large babies (my biggest 2 were 11 lbs 2 oz and 12 Lbs 3 oz) and my stomach was stretched to high heavens. I need a diet that really works and one thats easy for me to follow. I can’t wait to hear about your progress.
Tons of luck and keep up the great work!

    1. Pregnancy leftovers – I like that! Ha!
      And those are large babies!!
      Thanks for the support Sandra!

  6. Congratulations on your weight loss!
I swelled so much towards the end of my twin pregnancy, everyone in the drs office knew who I was and felt so sorry for me!
I’ll be gaining this year since i’m pregnant again 🙂

    1. Hi Gianna,
      oh, I remember those looks!
And, the look I got when telling people I was only 4 months pregnant {before we knew we were having Twins}…I should have thought something was up at the time, right?
Everytime anyone I know talks about my pregnancy, they always say, “remember the size of your feet?”
Ummm…ya, I wish I could forget. I honestly didn’t think it was possible to swell so much!
      🙂

  7. Hi fellow Canuckian 😉
I found you in BYDLS daily newspaper (Christine Miserandino) (sp?) so I am wondering if you are also a “spoonie”. I hope my email is visible to you, because I have hoped to find another spoonie in Canada to compare notes about the medical system here. Congrats on the twins! My daughter is in surgery today, she is expecting, they are thinking twins but not sure, and has to have her gall bladder out, so we’re praying it won’t start contractions or something. Twins run in our family, and she has always wanted twins, so if she has twins, she’ll be a spoonie with twins and 2 other little ones. Yikes! She’ll have to hire help cuz her husband is gone 90% of the time as a pilot.
Love your blog, going to folow you at twitter. I’m Penlady there.
