How NutriSystem Works {2nd Week Weigh-In}

I have been reviewing the NutriSystem program for 2 weeks now. I would like to dedicate this post entirely on information about how NutriSystem works, since I have gotten many emails and messages asking about the food and the process.

When you sign up for NutriSystem, you can either choose a pre-selected menu or choose all your own portion controlled entrees. You get Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Dessert delivered right to your door – so convenient! You also get information,  a really handy meal Planner/Shopping guide and an exercise DVD. Plus, 24hr phone support is available is you have any questions or need assistance.

NutriSystem foods do not need to be frozen or refrigerated {if not opened}, as they are prepared by a soft-canning process. This is really helpful when you are traveling or need to take meals to work. NutriSystem has meal plans for Men, Women, Men or Women in their older years, and also separate plan for those with Type 2 Diabetes. Keep in mind that you eat more than the NutriSystem foods alone. Here is the menu plan for the basic Women’s program {the one that I am on}:

Breakfast:

  • NutriSystem Breakfast Entree
  • Dairy or Protein
  • Fruit

Lunch:

  • NutriSystem Lunch Entree
  • 2 Vegetables {with dressing if desired}
  • Dairy or Protein

Snack:

  • Dairy or Protein
  • Fruit

Dinner:

  • NutriSystem Dinner Entree
  • 2 Vegetables {with dressing if desired}
  • Fruit or an extra Vegetable
  • 1 Fat

Dessert:

  • NutriSystem Dessert Entree

**If you have more than 100lbs to lose, there are additions to the basic plan, increasing your food intake for caloric needs.

So far, I have tried a great variety of the meals offered at NutriSystem, and the majority – I really love! {as in, I look forward to the meals} There is the exception of a few that I don’t personally care for, yet I will leave a full review of the foods for another post. All entree choices are listed on the website, so have a look!

As you can imagine, being a mother of 3, I still have to cook for my family. Yet, I cook large portions of meals and make them last. I have found that while on NutriSystem, I save a lot money by not eating out {we haven’t hit a drive-through for anything, in over 2 weeks. And,  you can imagine how much that used to add up!}. Before, when time crunched, I would resort to going to a drive-through or making anything quick easy {and calorie laden}. Now, it’s just as easy to come home and sneak a NutriSystem meal into the microwave or oven. So, I have no excuses to eat out and no temptation to make poor food choices. To ensure in success, I am meal-planning more for the family, and making sure that I am making better choices for them as well. I haven’t yet felt  inconvenienced, rushed nor deprived of food

And now, my week 2 weigh-in:
{Sundays are my weigh-in days, which works well ’cause then I have to ‘behave’ over the weekend, especially for Friday and Saturday movie nights with my daughter. Sneaky or just brilliant…you decide}

Starting weight: too much for my liking!

Week 2: -2 lbs

Total Weight Loss To Date: -7 lbs

I am really happy with my 2 lb loss this week, and 7 total in 2 weeks. I had a rough week though, the twins have been very sick and I missed a couple days at the gym because of it. I am a stress-eater, I fully admit that. And, after an especially hard day with fevered twin toddlers and talks of a trip to the hospital – I discovered a bag of mini chocolates hiding in the back of the freezer. I just had one little chocolate, I promise. I also have one huge piece of ice cream cake left over from my birthday, in full view when I open the freezer – and I haven’t touched it. So, I’d say choosing this one little chocolate was a decent choice. Oh and by the way, hubby, nice hiding spot for your mini chocolates! Pfft, amateur!

  2. How does your family (read kids) think about you eating a different meal than they are? My guys often wont try anything unless I’m eating the same thing.
    Do they offer recipes information for when you are done losing weight on how to create your own meals that wont cause you to gain weight again?

    1. I choose my meals and theirs so that they are similar. For instance, if they are eating pasta, I choose one of my pastas. And, my twins can’t have tomato sauce, so if they have penne with alfredo sauce and I have a NutriSystem Meat Lasagna – they don’t even notice since it’s usual around here.
      Sometimes my oldest daughter remarks, ‘oh that looks good, Mom!’ so I’ll give her a taste of my entree and she loves it. She did ask why I was eating different meals {she’s older so she knows the different packaging etc}, and I said it was a review for Mom’s work.
      She knows about those!
      Actually – her remark was – your pizza is a review mom? good score! lol
      Kids are too funny!

  3. Go Tammi! It is never easy to try to lose weight and even harder when you have a family I find. My husband and I have started to exercise more often and are trying to reduce portions and it is not easy.

    I’ll follow your journey closely. 🙂

  4. good luck Tammi with this program but be very careful what is in these foods that make them last so long with not having to be in a fridge ?

    1. Thanks Bev, they are packaged the same as canned meats and soups in cans – they have expiry dates.

    You are doing great. I try to eat similar things that my family is eating so it’s like we are eating the same things.

    If they have pizza, I will have one of my pizzas… it seems to work well!

    1. That’s what I do too, Lynette! It’s working great, and even they remark how good the foods smell and look. And taste too – I give them a taste
