I have followed the talk these last few months about Google not updating their PageRank anymore. Recently Google even took the Page Rank feature off the Google Toolbar – so it only goes to show that GooglePR isn’t of any significance anymore. It seems other sites are growing as better alternatives to tracking search engine position. After years of debating whether or not to take a deeper look into Alexa, I have decided it’s worth a shot. But, since I have never paid much attention to it, my poor blog has been neglected by Alexa as well {my #’s are bitterly painful}.
You see, Alexa only works if people online have the Alexa Toolbar. Whether you are a reader or a blogger, having this toolbar gives some recognition to the sites that you visit. Call it a pat on the back, to those that get your attention. Yet only tracks those visitors with the toolbar, and not anyone else without it. This is why I always cringed when I heard ‘Alexa’, since I didn’t think it could then be a true measure of rank. Yet, after using for a few days myself – I can honestly say it’s quite handy to use as an internet tool. So, I do recommend the toolbar, whether you are a blogger or not. It doesn’t retrieve any personal or private information about you, and is safe to use – plus, you can add easy bookmarks to the toolbar of your favorite sites.
You could always download the toolbar and take it for a spin – no harm in that. And, if you do have the toolbar, you could write a little review about My Organized Chaos – that would be really nice of you!!
If you are a blogger, I’d like your input. Which rank tool are you keeping an eye on these days?

I downloaded the Alexa toolbar months ago, and watched my numbers improve significantly. Then, my hubby took it off and put on the SwagBucks toolbar. My numbers are pretty much at a stand still now. I think I am just going to forget about PR completely…have you checked out your KLOUT number yet?

I did check out Klout months ago – but honestly, I have no idea what that means…is it a Twitter grader??

Oh, boy, I do not know much about this stuff!

Tammi- here’s the link to Klout: http://klout.com
I have my button posted at the bottom of my site.
I watch Alexa daily because I have the Toolbar and check out MozRank a few times a month.

I just started with Alexa, my numbers are awful but they are slowly improving.

Klout measures your on-line influence through twitter and facebook. They are going to be measuring your linkden influence too, but I have NO IDEA how to be active in linkden.
I can’t handle stats anymore, they just depress me or make me psychotic.
Compete is supposed to be a common one companies use too, but someone just told me it’s all about a tool bar too.

I hear ya, Louise.
There seems to be so many and individually they only look at a few areas! It’s confusing!
