Presto Dots to the Max by Crayola

Thanks to Crayola, my kids and I have discovered a new kind of modeling dough. And honestly, it’s my new favorite! It’s called Model Magic, and specifically we got the Presto Dots to the Max Package. First of all, I have to do a little bragging about the dough. It’s squishy and like a foam. But, there’s NO MESS. Model Magic {which is non-toxic} doesn’t stain the hands, stick to surfaces – nor does it dry and crumble into little pieces when you are working with it. This gives it major points with this Mom!

Now onto the Presto Dots to the Max kit! It comes a surface mat, rolling pin, three mini bases with attached body forms, three bases, two egg-shaped body forms, one round body form, six tubs of Model Magic {in 6 vibrant and rich colors}, five shape tools, two mini-shape tools, and instructions which also have some design ideas.

My oldest daughter set out right away, rolling out some dough and covering a round form. Then, she used the tools to make eyes, hair, ears, horns – whatever she wanted. You simply choose a tool, push it into some dough, and then when it’s placed onto the surface of more dough – the dot sticks! {thus the name, presto dots!} This set includes everything to make 6 figures, so there was plenty for all 3 of my kids to use {it’s quite a big set}.

While the twins didn’t get the gist of making the presto dots, they still had so much fun playing with the Model Magic dough, and making their own kind of creations!

The girls played with this kit for what seemed like forever, there was no limits on what they could come up with – on their own. For instance, my daughter learned on her own that the bigger dot tool was great for the body and hair. Yet, there was smaller ones that were perfect for the pupils of eyes and {ahem} pimples. Kids!

So, the kids had so much fun – it was so cute watching them play together {happily, I may add}. You know what made me even happier? The clean up! Once I put all the pieces into a bucket and gathered the large chucks of dough and put them back into their containers – I looked at the table and the floor – CLEAN!
Want proof? Here is a photo of my kitchen table, after I put all the kit away. Notice there’s no small bits of dough anywhere? And, they didn’t even use the surface mat that the kit came with.

Now, we don’t break out the dough that often in winter months {for the mess}, but the Model Magic is welcome at my table anytime. I rarely say ‘love’ on my blog…but, I love this stuff!

It may be great that the dough doesn’t make a mess, yet the dough has to stick together easily in order to make the dots. So, the colors mix with each other, even with the first play. And I do know some Moms who loathe mixed dough! While I would prefer to always have separate colors for the kids, I have to weigh the pros against the cons – and in this case – the pros win.

Deal Alert!! I have found the Model Magic Presto Dots to the Max kit – on sale! This kit is regular priced at about $29.99 – yet amazon has it on sale for $7.99. Wowzers, that’s 73% off! So, I’m getting a couple more of these kits for sure. And possibly even more for birthday gifts. Yes, readers – I like Model Magic that much!!
