Disneynature Oceans DVD & Blu-ray Review

Mark your calendars for October 19th!
That’s the day that Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment releases
Disneynature Oceans onto Blu-ray Hi-Def & DVD!

OCEANS on Blu-ray Hi-Def will take viewers on a breathtaking and unprecedented high-definition journey to discover nature’s mysteries, showcasing creatures captured on film for the first time and state-of-the-art imagery of the colorful symphony that lives under the sea. With crystal clear picture, and theater-quality sound, OCEANS puts audiences in the very heart of the action, racing along amid a school of traveling tuna, leaping with dolphins and swimming shoulder-to-fin with whales that will entertain kids and parents alike.

Directed by Jacques Perrin (two-time Academy Award® nominee for Best Documentary, Features for Winged Migration in 2003; Best Picture for Z in 1970) and Jacques Cluzaud (Winged Migration, Les Ailes de la Nature), the two filmmakers venture in, on and around our seas to discover photogenic oddities and endangered wonders. OCEANS dives deep into the very waters that sustain all of mankind—exploring the playful splendor and the harsh reality of the weird and wonderful creatures that live within. These two directors capture mesmerizing footage using the most technologically-advanced equipment that has allowed them to bring this to true high-definition powers.

www.myorganizedchaos.net,OCEANS is narrated by Pierce Brosnan (The Ghost Writer, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and Mamma Mia) who has long been affiliated with environmental causes and campaigns including programs such as the International Fund for Animal Welfare’s “Save the Whales Again!” campaign.

My family recently got our copy of Disneynature: OCEANS in the combo pack, and I sat down and expected a typical ‘nature documentary’. Don’t get me wrong, we love a good documentary in this house {my daughter loves this one on Bats, she has watched it on TV about 4 times in the last year}. I knew my daughter would have some interest in this movie, since she has a book on The Ocean and it’s animals and she loves it. We have read that book more times than not, and she never tires of learning about ocean animals in their habitat. So, given that – I knew she’d watch it. Yet, This movie blew us away! The color, the amazing underwater shots and the great information – it is one excellent nature documentary! I was very interested in this show and was becoming quite annoyed with my kids. Isabelle was non-stop with the, “cool, what IS that?, what is that fish eating?, look how he walks!, what’s his name?, wow!, did you hear that Mom?, I knew that, that whale is in my book!, did you see his teeth?, look at them fight!”…yep, she loved it alright. The Twins were also into the movie, yet not for the same reasons as my daughter. Not caring about the facts, they loved watching the animals, most of which they have never seen. They too had the occasional, “oh no!, wow, Ooooo”. Needless to say, our viewing of this movie was full of enthusiasm and wonderment. I am very pleased and highly recommend it. Yet, to hear more about the details on each animal and to really appreciate the beauty that Disneynature produces, I’ll have to watch this alone – without the wee commentaries that are my children {but, it’s great they loved it, right?}!

I said ‘mark your calendars’ and I mean it: every purchase of a Blu-ray Combo Pack or DVD of Disneynature OCEANS between October 19 and 25, will help conserve our world’s oceans and the species that depend on them for survival. Disneynature, through the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund, will help establish new marine protected areas of coral reefs in The Bahamas with The Nature Conservancy, one of the largest conservation organizations in the world. One part in the film that amazed me a ton, is when it showed the cleaning stations and how fish cleaned other fish’s mouths. That is their job! This short clip explain a bit more, yet to see it on OCEANS is a wonder to see!

  1. I may just have to put this on the Christmas list! Much like Isabelle, I still love seeing and learning about the ocean. I think most kids (and adults) do! I haven’t heard Pierce do a documentary before, but I enjoy his voice, that’s always a plus!

  2. Ha – we are watching it again right now as I type, Alissa!
Actually, I was woken up by my little Sophia shoving the case in my face and saying, ‘fish? fish?’
Yep, I do recommend it – it’s a great movie!
