In stores today is the DVD combo pack, Nine and Sex and the City: The Movie. I love finding a combo value pack which has two great movies. Not only does it give you more bang for the buck, but combo packs are paired perfectly, so that if you know that you like one of the titles, you’ll most likely like the other. Think of it like a recommendation of sorts!
I adore Sex and the City: The Movie. I had seen it in theaters, and again afterward when it was released onto DVD {and *maybe* again somewhere in there} It’s one of those movies I could watch over and over again. Being a huge fan of the TV series, I wasn’t disappointed in the least when it came to this movie. The fab four women {Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon} are hilarious, it makes me really miss the series on TV. But, forget the mouthwatering handbags, and the to.die.for footwear – Sex and the City: The Movie is the ultimate homage to the essence of having true female friendships. It makes me want to run out and hug my faithful friends, and hold onto them forever. Watching this movie again for the
third forth time makes me beyond eager for part 2 to hit theatres!
Synopsis: Sex And The City: The Movie
For too long, Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) had been looking for love in all the wrong places…but in all the right shoes. In this much-anticipated movie event, Carrie, Samantha (Kim Cattrall), Charlotte (Kristin Davis) and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) are back, four years after the hit TV series ended. As they continue to juggle career, relationships, motherhood and life in Manhattan, the girls realize that more than ever, true friendship never goes out of style. “Poignant, incisive and proudly outrageous, Sex and the City is the love letter fans have been waiting for” (Rossiter Drake, San Francisco Examiner).~~~~~~~
The movie NINE has quite a star-studded cast: Daniel Day-Lewis, Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, Nicole Kidman, Judi Dench, Kate Hudson, Stacy Ferguson, Sophia Loren. For those that enjoy movie’s that are exploding with talent, this one is for you. Director/choreographer, Rob Marshall, also did Chicago as well. I wasn’t a person that was overly impressed with Chicago, yet NINE was so much better in my eyes.
Synopsis: NINE is a vibrant and provocative musical that follows the life of world famous film director Guido Contini (Daniel Day-Lewis) as he reaches a creative and personal crisis of epic proportion, while balancing the numerous women in his life including his wife (Marion Cotillard), his mistress (Penelope Cruz), his film star muse (Nicole Kidman), his confidant and costume designer (Judi Dench), a young American fashion journalist (Kate Hudson), the whore from his youth (Stacy “Fergie” Ferguson) and his mother (Sophia Loren).
Daniel Day-Lewis is usually seen in action flicks, yet I enjoyed the more light hearted and entertaining Daniel in the movie NINE. Even though I don’t care much for the singing of Nicole Kidman nor Penelope Cruz, I was blown away by the singing abilities of Kate Hudson. Wow, can that girl sing! Maybe it was the storyline and the rich and vibrant costumes {which you can learn more about in the special features!}. Or, maybe I just got caught up in the all-star cast {I love Sophia Loren!}. In any case, I really enjoyed the entirety of this movie. NINE got 4 academy award nominations, and I certainly see why. Now if only I could figure out why it was named, NINE..?
Just like I expected, these are 2 wonderful movies that are jam-packed with fabulous actors, I could not have paired two more suitable movies!
Disclosure: I was provided with product to facilitate this review post, opinions are my own.

Since I like combo packs of movies too – I’ll hunt down this one. I love musicals! Better yet, this would make a good Mother’s Day gift – sending your link to my Husband as a small hint. lol
