FitFlops Classic Walkstar Sandal

Have you tried a pair of workout/leg shaping shoes yet? I was given the opportunity to review a pair of FitFlops Sandals, the footwear that gives you a workout while you walk. Featured on ‘Oprah’s Favorite Summer Things‘ in 2008, FitFlop has a patent-pending Microwobbleboard™ technology {which was developed by doctors}. Since I have a love for comfortable flip flops, I was eager to see if these met both my need for a stylish sandal, and a fitness workout combined.

This unique technology delivers enhanced leg muscle loading by combining three varying densities of EVA in a single smooth-underfoot midsole piece. With a thick, firm heel strike area to absorb shock, a soft center-footbed and a mid-density toe off area, slight instability is created to ’switch’ the relevant muscle groups on for longer periods during every single step.

Not only does it tone and tighten your leg muscles while you walk,
but wearing them can also:

  • increase leg, calf and gluteal muscle activity,
  • improve your posture,
  • mimic the gait of barefoot walking but with more muscle load,
  • improve muscle tone.
  • provide relief from plantar fasciitis, heel spurs, chronic back pain, sciatica, osteoarthritis, RLS (restless leg syndrome), scoliosis and degenerative disc disease.

I was able to review their most famous FitFlop, the classic Walkstar sandal, in the color Red. The sandal has a soft microfiber lined upper and a new super-slim™ leather toe post. It feels like any other comfortable flip flop, I had no difficulties walking nor balancing in them, right from the start. I like that it appears like any ordinary summer shoe, yet I know that it’s working overtime for a bigger benefit than just looking great. It’s not quite summer here in Western Canada, yet Mother Nature blessed us with a couple of weeks of sandal-wearing weather. So I took that opportunity to wear these Walkstar FitFlops at every chance. I even wore them all day long for a couple of days, on an out of town trip with the family. At the end of the day, I did notice a tightening in my legs due to increasing tone, yet happily I was never in pain from it. I also found that I was more aware of the way I was walking and did realize that my posture was so much better when I wore FitFlops!
As for the fit of my Walkstar FitFlops, the length is perfect and the strap is tight to my foot, but there seems to be too much length in the toe post. I am able to walk in comfort, yet I always have to double-check that the toe post is in a good position, and one that won’t rub the sides of my toes. I think this could be corrected by a half-size smaller sandal, yet FitFlop doesn’t make half-sizes. So, for some, it might be trickier to find a perfect fit.

FitFlop has styles for all kinds of weather – sandals, slides, clogs and boots. And, there FitFlops available to Women, Men and Children too.

  1. I know you haven’t worn them tons yet, but I have to ask about the stinky shoe factor. My flip flops always seem to get funky – is there any sort of anti-funk protection in the soles of these?

    1. I have worn them quite a lot, actually. We had some nice days, and I have been wearing them all day in the house as well.
And, no – no stinky feet…LOL, not that I can smell anyway!

  2. Thanks Tammi! I have 2 pairs of flops from last summer from a famous sandal company – and while they are mega comfy – they are also mega stinky. I think I may indulge myself with a pair of these! I love the suede model they have.

  3. i really like that these don’t have that ugly arch that some have. i know it’s for a reason – but they just look so ugly! I’m going to checkout the other designs on the website, thanks for the review!
