Scholastic books, Canadian Winter and the ‘Perfect Snow’

Each month my daughter comes home from school with her Scholastic books order and I’m not sure who’s more excited – me or her! When browsing through the titles, I am taken back to my own childhood. I always see so many popular and much loved books included in the catalog, that I used to have. It’s nice to see that today’s kids are enjoying the classics as much as the new titles, and boy – does scholastic have the

greatest selection of book titles!
When choosing books for my daughter, I like to think of the current season, upcoming holidays and her personal interests and hobbies. She has a true love for books and I like to keep the titles fresh and new, so that they will always be a great source for
imagination and growth.

To celebrate our Canadian winter and the Olympics games being held in Vancouver, Scholastic gave her the book, ‘Perfect Snow’
by Barbara Reid to review.
If you have not yet read a book by the Canadian award-winning author Barbara Snow, I really urge you to do so. Her use of Plasticine Art combined with ink and watercolor pictures are just amazing {I recall loving her illustrations in ‘The New Baby Calf’ when I was young}. The pictures in this book are simply gorgeous, and that sure helps to keep the kids’ attention. Each time I read this book, I find myself pausing for a long time on every page, studying the intricate pictures. They are so detailed, colorful and fun – they really do come to life. And, her story of school aged kids playing and creating in the snow, is sure to bring a smile on anyone’s face. Barbara is a very talented author and we are more than happy to have ‘Perfect Snow’ in our collection.

Did you know, much like movies – books have trailers too?
Check out this one for Perfect Snow:

There are many other titles available at Scholastic Canada, in the winter theme. And, there are books for all ages too! The site makes it so easy to find exactly what you are looking for. One of my favorites from this list would be Robert Munsch. He is one of my all-time favorite authors. And his title, ‘Just One Goal!’ is sure to get you into the hockey spirit!

Check out the Scholastic Canada website to browse the many titles, reminisce on your own childhood and purchase new memories for your children.
