Leapfrog Tag and Tag Jr.

The LeapFrog Tag has got to be one of the hottest toys of the year. And until I recently had the chance to try it out for my daughter, I didn’t understand why. But now, I realize that this product may very well be on the must-have list for years to come. The Tag is intended for kids from ages 4-8 and it’s a Learn To Read program. What it essentially does is brings books to life by placing the Tag pen on the Tag books. The Pen reads letter and words, allows characters to talk and sing. Currently there are 25 compatible book to the Tag library. Some of the books include Disney Princesses, Diego, Spongebob Squarepants, Star Wars, Spiderman and many more. My daughter is in Kindergarten and has divulged herself into the world of books and reading. The Tag allows her to follow each word and learn them as she goes. It has been a great addition to our home and her pathway to learning. To use each Book, parents must download each book’s audio from their PC {or MAC}, then drag and drop content onto the reader {just like managing digital camera or MP3 files}. If you have an older computer, this may be little difficult for you. And, you can only have 3 books downloaded into the pan at one time. If your child likes to switch books a lot, this may become a bit of a pain. My only wish is for more books ‘fit’ into the
Tag pen at one time.

For the younger kids {ages 2-4}, there’s the Tag Junior. This one features the same technology that drives the Tag, yet with a wider and shorter bulb that is easier for wee hands to hold. This system for toddlers allows them to explore books by touching the bulb to the pages. One thing that I like about the Tag Junior is that the books are board books, so that they remain durable for the younger {and the not-so-gentle-with-books}. And the books are smaller than the Tag’s books, so they rest nicely on a toddlers’ lap as well. With the Tag Jr., 5 books can be stored into the bulb at once, and for toddlers, that may just be perfect. A few examples of Tag Junior books that are available are: Dora, The Backyardigans,
Dr. Suess and Winnie The Pooh.

The Tag and Tag Jr. from LeapFrog are great for home use, or taking on the go. Since it’s just the books and the pens, there are no cartridges or anything else to worry about packing and keeping track of. The Tag and the Tag Jr both are compatible with LeapFrogs Learning Path – an online program designed for parents to track the progress of their childs’ learning
favorite activities and more.
