There is a contest being held by Genworth Financial Canada and Habitat for Humanity Canada that I just have to tell you about. Since the season of caring, sharing and giving is amongst us, what better way than to have children use their writing skills to make a difference to a family in need.
Between October 5th and November 13th, Canadian students in grades 4, 5 and 6 will be asked what ‘home’ means to them. Is it a safe place? A comforting place? Where their loved ones are?…or where their stuff is? {Ha!}
It’s called The Meaning of Home Contest and these students can submit their choice of written composition, essay or poem which describes what ‘home’ means to them.
There will be a 1st Place Winner and 5 Runner Ups to this contest.
That’s $60,000 for a family in need, can you imagine how proud they would be?
* Receive a high-performance Dell laptop with 80 GB hard drive, 3 GB RAM and an extended warranty, loaded with Microsoft Office.
The Five Runner Ups will each:
* Help a family to get a home of their own: Genworth will donate $5,000 to a Habitat affiliate of the winner’s choice – which will support the building of a new home in that community.
* Receive a $100 gift certificate to Chapters Indigo.
