Balanced Day Lunch Kit is a line of products that was developed in response to the BSD breaks. The Balanced School Day (BSD) has started in over 800 Ontario schools. It boils down to 3 teaching blocks of time, with 2 – 40-50 min breaks per day (instead of the usual recesses and lunch breaks). It will soon be a province-wide program, and possibly move to the other provinces.
The premise is that a kit or bag with one compartment is not practical with the new program. Kids see the one lump of food, and eat it all at first break! I gasp thinking of it. Well, there’s no organization in that!! Kids need a little help, and Mom isn’t there – so Balanced Day Lunch Kit took on the responsibility of ensuring they get balanced nutrition when away from home and away from Mom’s watchful eyes.
I was sent the Balanced Day Bag in the white polka dot pattern (Isabelle’s pick). I loved the size of the bag – roomy enough to put lots of food in, yet compact enough that little ones can carry it. It even has a small sized arm strap. The bag is separated into two compartments, with a ‘1’ on the outside of the one side, and a ‘2’ on the other. Perfect for food intended for one break, and others for the next break. The entire bag is easy to clean, and the inside of the compartments have an insulated liner. Each compartment also features an elastic where you can fasten small snacks, cutlery or anything else that needs to stay in place. I like that this elastic is completely adjustable to fit any size of item. Your area isn’t on the BSD program? No problem! I can see anyone with 2 kids with different tastes or diets liking these bags. The bag isn’t all you need when sending food to school, so Balanced Day Lunch Kit also sells great lunch bag ‘accessories’. (They have thought of everything!) Isabelle was also sent an cold pack in the heart design, which she, of course, loves! These cold packs freeze in 1 hour, and is even flexible when entirely frozen. A simple way that we can provide some extra ‘coolness’ to our kids’ day!The store also sells stainless steel water bottles, made to fit the bag perfectly. Environmentally friendly and just the right size for your child. And, of course – Balanced Day Lunch Kits carry food containers as well, they call them Eco Packs. Unlike my containers at home, these are child-size. They are also easier to open, with easy to use tabs. Isabelle had no problems opening and closing these containers. And once they are closed, they are air and water tight.
All of the Balanced Day Lunch Kit products are made with certified safe materials and contain no harmful ingredients. So…What’s left? Oh ya – the food! Balanced Day Lunch Kits have this covered as well. The site provides a 4 week sample menu. Just some great new ideas to keep your child healthy, and it takes the boredom and repetition out of making meals. I loved this feature of the site, because even at home – about mid-morning I cringe when I hear, “I’m hungry!”. Thanks for making my day a little easier Balanced Day Bags! And for some great products that will make the BSD program a little easier, more fun and a lot more organized for kids (and provides a little sigh of relief for Mom’s)
