Lays Chip Trips | The Calgary Zoo

July 29, 2010

Our family has collected our Lay’s Chip Trip points, from bags of Lay’s potato chips. On the Lay’s Chip Trips website, you can redeem those points for savings on entertainment, attractions and for food – all across Canada. We recently made a trip to the Calgary Zoo {Alberta}, and yes, there is a coupon for 50% off admission to the Calgary Zoo {up to a family of 4}. That’s a huge savings! The Calgary Zoo is a place we visit every year, yet this year they have some new features at the Zoo. They now have Dinosaurs Alive in their [...]

The Belief That a Perfect Body Makes a Perfect Life | Body Image Pressures In Children

July 20, 2010

My Mother In Law recently told me about a conversation that she and my FIL had with my daughter, who is 5 years old. “Grandma and Grandpa, what do you want to be?” Grandma “You mean, when we grow up?” “Ya” Grandpa, “That’s easy – a Cowboy” “And you Grandma?” “Hmmm, I think I’d be an Heiress” “What’s that? “Well, it’s a woman who is very rich and sails on her yacht in the Mediterranean sea” “Oh….” {in thought} “But Grandma, I think you have to be thin to do that” ~~ Of course her Grandparents thought this was too [...]

My Twins Will Not Keep Their Diapers On!

July 13, 2010

In the battle between Motherhood and raising the Twin Toddlers, I have been had one daily battle in particular that has caused me so much frustration. Ever since that day long ago, when they had their infamous Poo Fight, this frustrating and repulsive event has unfortunately happened many times. It never fails, the minute they go for their nap or to bed at night, off come the clothes – and their diapers. Once in a while, curious to the more-joyous-than-usual giggles coming from their room, I catch them just in time to avoid a disastrous mess. Sometimes, it’s only one [...]

Evidence Of Sisterly Love

After my oldest daughter caught the bus for her last day of school, this caught my attention… While waiting for her school bus, she was sitting on the stairs practicing her writing. Everyone, including myself thinks she has an accent, not at all like the family or anyone she interacts with. Very odd, but I’d describe it as a ‘Brooklin’ type of accent more than anything. When she spells, she sounds out the words as she writes. She says ‘Gils’ for ‘Girls’, so she writes ‘Gils’. I think it’s so adorable and am dreading the day when she grows out [...]

I recently learned how to grill and did a shout-out to all my readers, asking for their favorite recipes. I was sent a ton of yummy recipes, in comments to my post, on Facebook and through email. I have come to realize that spices and sauces are the trick, so I’m trying to expand my knowledge when it comes to spicing up my favorites. One favorite is always burgers, and here’s a recipe to give your chicken burgers some Asian flare, by using VH Cooking Sauce. Asian Chicken Burgers 1 ½ lb (720 gr) ground chicken ¾ cup (180 mL) [...]

Favorite Meals | BBQ

Thumbnail image for Favorite Meals | BBQ

I have a confession… I just used the BBQ for the first time {by myself} a couple days ago. That’s right, pick your jaw up off the floor. For the first time, I grilled meat. Up until now, my husband always cooked solely on the BBQ {when he was home from work, that is}. Which equals not too much grilled food for us. The reasons why I hadn’t ventured into the grilled world up until now? Well, we have a pretty old BBQ and it’s very finicky. The igniter ceased to work long ago, so a person has to manually [...]

The Mommy Rhapsody

July 3, 2010

A tribute to all Mommy’s! This is a funny {yet true} take on Bohemian Rhapsody, all about Motherhood. I love the ending, “In the end it’s worth it, In the end it’s worth it – to me”. Brilliant! ~

A Kindergartener No More

It seems like just yesterday that I kissed my sweet baby goodbye as she hopped excitedly onto the big yellow bus. It was her first day of Kindergarten, and though she was overflowing with excitement, this Mom was overcome with sadness. Age 5 seemed too young to venture alone, too young to walk amongst the hallways of a school. The entire year has passed, and she has grown in academics, personality and character. Though I still see her as my baby, it takes my breath away when I catch glimpses of the little lady that is beneath my favorite freckle [...]

My Children Run The Course Of My Day, Even Canada Day

July 1, 2010

Today is Canada Day {Happy Birthday my beloved country}. On a day that is my favorite, 2nd only to Christmas – I try to take in the activities around my city. I adore the excitement and celebration that is Canada Day. Alas, the last couple of years have been pretty low key, since the Twins’ almighty arrival into this world. You see, some aspects of daily life are quite affected when you have multiples. ‘Some‘, you gasp. Yes, I said some. With Twins, you feed one and feed the other; change a diaper, change the other; wipe a nose and [...]
