Organize that Back to School Chaos

Text, whiteboard

Even though we still have a few weeks of summer holidays, back-to-school prep is in full swing! My head is bussing with to-buy and do-do lists. School supplies, school shoes, lunches, clothing … yet, it’s hard since my mind is still on those lazy days of summer too.

Tips to Organize that Back to School Chaos!

Prepare lunches – Buying and preparing a nutritious lunch is a job in itself. Not sure your kids are eating everything you’re packing? Consider giving them a top-up with a tasty gummy multivitamin like L’il Critters™ Gummy Vites. Made with naturally sourced flavours and packed with essential nutrients, they’ll be prepared for a full day of playing and learning {I got a huge bottle for a great price at Costco this week!}.

Back-to-school shopping – Sit down as a family and make a list of the items your kids will need for the year ahead. Making a list of school supplies and being prepared before setting out to shop will ensure you only purchase items your children need to complete their daily assignments and have a little fun in the classroom too!

Create a schedule – Parents and kids both fall victim to summer sleep schedules; late nights and junk food are the name of the game. Get your whole family prepared by getting your kids back on schedule. Provide them with a daily routine one or two weeks before the first day back and they’ll be ready and energized for the beginning of school.

Get organized – Back to school is hectic enough with your little ones, but sending your teen back to university or college is a whole different story. Prepare them for the year ahead by sending along some Arm & Hammer™ Coldwater™ Laundry Detergent. It gets out dirt and odours while saving money on hydro bills (versus washing in hot or warm water). For the 5 – 6 weekly loads you may find yourself doing with back-to-school activities, Arm & Hammer Laundry detergent will be your new best friend, giving clothes a clean and fresh boost with the power of baking soda.

Stay healthy – Saying goodbye to your kids as they head off to university is one of those bittersweet moments of parenthood. Late classes, hectic schedules and long nights of studying might leave you worrying about their health, especially with ‘student budgets’. Why not send them off with a supply of Vitafusion™ MultiVites gummy vitamins to help maintain their health*? Filled with key vitamins and delicious to bat – forgetting to take them won’t be an issue. Yet, keep in mind that vitamins are considered supplements only and should not replace meals. Consider them your backup plan!

What are some of your tips on making the back-to-school transition easier?

  1. These are great tips. When back to school time comes around, my sister turns into a maniac. There’s quite a bit of running around and, on occasion, swearing. =/

  2. We have been working on getting into a better schedule this last week. School starts end of August; so we are starting now with earlier get up times and earlier bed times. It really helps when that first day of school comes!

  3. Starting an earlier bedtime routine a few weeks before school starts is very helpful. Kids tend to get off track during their summer break and if they’re not used to getting up early they are dragging when school starts back up.

  4. I have been trying to do better about schedules but this is not my year apparently. My kids start back tomorrow so hopefully we transition well.

  5. I stock up on Arm And Hammer because I have horrible fragrance allergies and it is the most powerful on stains, gentle on me detergent I can find. Great tips!

  6. These are great tips! Keeping my kids on schedule as much as possible is always the best thing to prepare for success in anything!

  7. I have been scheduling everything since last month… checking things off my list as I went… makes my life so much easier. I have everything done except buying the baggies, LOL

  8. GREAT tips… especially since we are starting school on Monday.. we are slowly getting back to our daily routine and it’s hard to believe that summer is over….

  9. Those are great tips. Having a schedule and preparing lunches and clothing the night before made it so much easier when my kids were younger,

  10. Fantastic tips! Getting as much done the night before always helped me and a big family calendar.

  11. Yeah… Back to school is always… interesting around my house. Maybe these tips will help make it less interesting!

  12. Oh my goodness. I always think of gummies for little kids, but what a sure fire way to get college kids to take their vitamins too!

  13. I plan on creating my own little list of back to school things I need to complete before my two girls head back! Prepping lunches the night before is a great idea.

  14. These are some great tips and ideas. The back to school time period is always hectic and chaotic, organization is a must have!

  15. My daughter, who’s 16, just about runs screaming from the room if we mention school starting soon! And we homeschool. Although she is starting a couple of college classes this fall. Oh well, there goes the summer! Great ideas Tammi!

  16. This year we made sure to start the kids on a strict bedtime schedule a few days before school started to get them back on track after the summer break.

  17. My best tip is to start early, and do some comparison shopping instead of rushing around just before school starts.

  18. I am so glad these days are over. No matter how hard I tried, I forgot something. I tried to make lists.

  19. I love having my kiddos home, so back-to-school is not my favorite. The more organized I can be, thought, the better I handle it. Thanks for the tips! I especially like the health tips…health can be easily overlooked as part of back to school prep!

  20. We’ve started practicing our back to school morning routine now…thank goodness cause we all needed the practice! Two are home, and two going to school…needless to say it gets crazy in the morning.

  21. Keeping the kids on the same bedtime they do when in school. I’ll admit, it’s been tough to keep that one up this summer, but trying to get them back into the swing of things!

  22. I like your tips for preparing children and teens for the ‘back to school’ routines. I think it is really important to begin earlier bedlimes for youngsters a few days before school beging. Books, clothes, etc. , should be discussed and budgeted for a few weeks before that big event as well. Teens going off to University or College should be shown how to manage their laundry, etc. It is an exciting and challenging time but a wonderful one as well.

  23. Back to School is a tough time for both my sons as they are not fans of school. I try not to overbook them in the last few weeks so they have fun before heading in. We always have a look at school supplies and make a list and set up all the binders etc for the first day a few days before. We do not do a lot of BTS shopping until later in September when the long sleeved shirts actually come into the stores except we do pick up new shoes.

  24. This is the first year in a long time that I do not feel the chaos approaching. My oldest is 16 and doesn’t need me to do all things I used to, I just need to make sure to find a size 14 shoe in time lol. The rest he can manage. I have a 2 yr old, but again, no chaos. She’s not in school or daycare…
I’ll shall enjoy the non chaotic start to the school year as much as I can, next year I know will be busy busy busy! Not living in the city keeps things pretty mellow too. The mad rush started the second I looked out the window at the world speeding by.
