Sphero 2.0 Tech Gadget

When a Sphero 2.0 arrived at my door for review, my kids were both so very curious and incredibly excited at the same time. In fact, I can’t remember the last time they were truly ‘in awe’ with a tech item. You know how kids seem to be more ‘in the know’ when it comes to these things, than we adults are? Yeah – that!

Have you heard of Sphero 2.0 before? Prepare for some coolness in your day, peeps!

The Sphero 2.0 is a toy tech ball {about the size of a baseball} that is controlled with an iOS or Android device and connects to it via Bluetooth. In essence, you can control this ball much like a remote control car … without the 80’s antenna. Think: more high-tech {very smart-like} with A LOT more added features.

Setup is really simple – just download the free Sphero app, tap the ball to activate and allow it to connect via bluetooth. In literally minutes, it’s ready for use.

Sure it’s fun to play with, but it’s also a lesson in skill. You see, you can move it, adjust the speed and really make it go {7 feet per second!}. But, it also comes with 2 green ramps, which is a whole new level of fun especially when you make little obstacle courses for Sphero. In fact, we’ve had a few jump challenges in this house recently. Ahem, I lost to the kids.

Even better, Sphero is waterproof, which expands the play to any kind of terrain and weather. Yep, you could have him {I decided it’s a him} roam around the pool if you wanted. Which is why it also comes with a silicone outer coating which gives him some grip when in water or on gravel.

Taking the coolness up one more level – there’s over 30 free apps to download, which increases the gameplay for Sphero.

Sphero Golf, Space Party and Sphero ColorGrab are just a few of the games made for this product that we’ve tried. Yet my oldest has fallen in love with The Rolling Dead. With this game, you use Sphero as a ‘fireball-shooting warrior’. The connected device takes live video {your immediate area become the gamefield} and adds in virtual attacking zombies. You must use sphero to shoot them, collect flaming power ups and roll away to stay alive.

The Sharky the Beaver app uses Augmented Reality, on your device the Sphero transforms into Sharky. This goofy character then runs around and eats coins and butterflies to get points. My youngest girls really get a kick out of this one, they are in awe at how Sharky appears on the screen in their house! Though Sphero 2.0 is meant for ages 8+, the twins at almost 6 can run him around. They aren’t as precise mind you, but their skill is increasing as they play.

The price tag on Sphero 2.0 is regularily $129.99, yet this product does do so much and there’s so many apps and games that can be played with it.

**From now until June 15, celebrate Father’s Day with a $99 Sphero 2.0 sale, that’s a great deal and will provide endless hours of fun over the Summer – for adult and kids alike.

If you look on the site, the Original Sphero is $20 cheaper, yet it doesn’t come with the ramps and the Nubby silicone skin. Plus, the 2.0 is a faster version, so the extras make it a worthy upgrade.

Disclosure: I received product to facilitate this review post. Opinions are, as always, my own.

I would love to win this for my grandson. He would love this and I love that its waterproof so it can go in the pool as well as on land.

I like that it’s interactive. I’d like to win for my DH so he can play with the kids.

  3. Judy C (Judy Cowan) says

Love that it is waterproof and interactive – looks like a fun toy that the entire family would love to play with!

  4. Darwin says

I would love to win this because I think my kids and I would have a blast with this toy! My favourite feature would have to be that it’s interactive.

  5. Jennifer P. says

I’d love to win because I think my husband and oldest child would have a lot of fun with this. It’d make a great gift for them! I love that there are 30 free apps to download – it’s always frustrating when I have to buy a bunch of apps, so I love this feature.
