Generations Riviera Maya

Karisma Hotels just opened their new resort, Generations Riviera Maya in the beautiful relaxing Mexican destination of the Mayan Riviera.

This resort with 144 suites caters to families of all kinds and sizes, with all the modern luxuries to make your vacation experience, the best it can be.

From the Cancun airport, the drive to Generations Riviera Maya is about 30 minutes with traffic. When you arrive at the lobby, you are greeted with warm smiles and immediate care for your check in and introduction to your butler. Not to mention the offering of Prosecco and a cool towel – perfect.

While there, I stayed in the ‘standard’ room at Generations Riviera Maya which is the luxury suite, comparable to the generous sized rooms that my family of 5 stayed in at Karisma’s Azul properties.

The luxury suite bathroom has separate toilet and shower areas. I love that there’s a standard shower head plus a rain shower as well. Divine!

There is also his & her sinks, plenty of counter space and a two person Jacuzzi tub. The icing on top is the heated floors in the in the bathroom, I never thought this would be needed in Mexico, but it is!

There is a 2 lit closets, ample drawer space, an in-room safe, ironing board, housecoats and plenty of space to move around – even when you toss in luggage and people.

I very much like the sleeping area, with the movable dividing wall which separates the king sized bed {or two doubles} and the living room area which has a couch that folds into another bed. When traveling with your family, even though you are not in your room a lot, this divider does give privacy and comfort – trust me.

I can say with much certainty that the luxury suites is designed with families in mind.

The luxury suite either has one king bed or two doubles, and is complete with 2 LCD TV’s, a coffee station, a mini fridge {stocked daily}, an iPod docking station, a table with two chairs and more. I couldn’t think of anything else to make this room better!

When looking at the 3 main buildings that are the accommodations at the resort, you’ll immediately notice that the bottom suites are swim outs that lead directly into the main pool, which is awesome.

Yet, Generations Riviera Maya took this one step farther to also provide guests with the option of swim out rooms on the next 3 floors! Keep in mind that there are rooms without the swim-outs, if you prefer.

Aside from the luxury suites, this resort also has one and two bedroom suites that also have kitchen and dining room areas, in addition to the everything that the luxury suite has. These multi-room suites and the adjoining luxury suites allow for the comfort and convenience for multigenerational travel and large groups.

One feature I can’t help but appreciate is that there is one main entrance per 3 suites. So, large families can book all 3 and have their own space, not coming out into the main hall to go from room to room. Yet, this design also really limits noise from the hallway, into the rooms.

During my stay, I heard nothing from the main hall whatsoever, which is a welcome change compared to all other hotels and resorts. I’m sure families traveling with napping babies will really appreciate this!

As you can see, there are plenty of options for any size of family. In addition, each and every room at Generations Riviera Maya has an ocean view. The standard of a luxury room with ocean view is just one aspect of the gourmet inclusive service of Karisma Hotels. You needn’t pay extra nor upgrade to get that top notch stay.

This extends to the fact that Generations Riviera Maya is an an all-butler resort. Meaning, your butler checks you in, caters to your every need and even brings you food and drink on the beach if you desire. They have sunscreen if you run out, will bring you a towel and even set up a beach picnic for your family {just to name a few of their services}.

Generations Riviera Maya has one tall main building, that conveniently houses all the resorts restaurants and lounge, Eko Kids Club and the spa {set to open in June 2014}.

A large building

Generations Riviera Maya has one large pool that extends the full length of the property, and has one fully stocked swim up bar. There is also a small splash park and the most adorable pint sized lounge chairs with umbrellas for the kids.

At Generations Riviera Maya there is ample lounge chairs at the pool and many cabanas both on the grass facing the ocean and on the beach.

Eko Kids club is located in the basement of the main building. At this club you’ll find Lego, video games, crafts, cooking lessons, a ball pit and more. There is a dance floor and even separate napping rooms for the wee ones.

Open from 9-5 pm and 7:30-9 pm daily, kids aged 4-12 can go as often as they like yet note that parents have to stay there with kids aged 4 and under.

I cannot forget the fantastic food and dining, right? While the ‘gourmet experience’ that Karisma Resorts offers includes so much, I tend to think of this idea more when it comes to the cuisine, and Generations Riviera Maya is no exception.

Each restaurant and each meal is truly a gourmet experience. From the plating to the uniqueness all the way to the taste – Karisma really has it going on when it comes to food for their guests.

A plate of food on a table

Normally I do break down and remark on each restaurant bar {or room service, since that is available as a standard to every guest}. Yet, in this case, It’s so hard to pick favourites and state specific recommendations. When it comes to all Karisma Hotels – you just must try it all.

A bunch of food on a table

Go to each restaurant, try a favourite and try something new – you won’t regret that decision. Savour the fine cuisine and then thank me later.

Generations Riviera Maya is right next to 2 other Karisma properties, the adult only resorts: El Dorato Royale and the El Dorato Casitas. Yes, I also visited these 2 resorts daily as well, so I can share a little recommendation when staying at Generations Riviera Maya – wander.

Walk over and see what these resorts offer by way of pools, bars and restaurants because when you stay at Generations Riviera Maya, you have access to everything at the 2 sister El Dorato resorts. While you children cannot go to these properties {they are adult-only}, you can explore while your kids are at Eko Club.

I highly suggest their spa, their nightly entertainment and plan for an experience like no other at the Fuentes Culinary Theatre.

  26. I had the pleasure to visit GENERATIONS RIVIERA MAYA in NOV 2013 just before it opened. The rooms really are beautiful. Karisma Hotels knows hotel design- and food. I can hardly wait to visit this property. There are some excellent opening promos at rates I suspect will not be this low next year. 1. Hi Carl!

Lucky you! This sounds like an amazing place!

Did you happen to notice or do you know anything about the wheelchair accessibility of the property? I’ll admit, I’m especially interested in whether or not I would even be able to use the swim-out feature of the rooms. (I am quite mobile and capable, but I can’t walk.) My husband and I are trying to decide where to spend our vacation fund, and this just might be it–if it is properly designed to allow us to both enjoy it without the hassle of accessibility issues.

      Thanks for your insight!

  27. Ummm… swim out rooms? Those are crazy amazing! Not to mention, the entire place looks incredible. I would love to be able to visit the Generations Riviera Maya one day!

  28. Awesome review. Just wondering if you felt the sliding wall was sufficient enough of a sound barrier. We have a 3 yr old traveling with us and am debating between a one-bedroom or the standard luxury suite as we do not want to have to sit in the bedroom in silence after 9pm…

    Thanks!

  29. This is the perfect web site for anyone who hopes to find out about thi topic.
You understanhd so much its almost touvh to argue with you (not that I really will neewd to…HaHa).

You certainly put a fresh spin on a subject which
has been written about for years. Excellent stuff, just wonderful!

  30. This design is steller! You definitely know how to keep a
reader entertained. Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved
to start my own blog (well, almost…HaHa!) Wonderful job.
I really enjoyed what you had to say, and more than that, how you
    presented it. Too cool!
