Ahhh Summer. We’ve been waiting a long time for you, my friend.
The weather here in Alberta has primarily been very hot and we’ve been spending a lot of our time outdoors. While we wait for our new deck to be built, the majority of our play is in the front yard. Chalks, bikes, bug collecting and a lot of the girls’ favorite activity for Summer 2013 – a Lemonade Stand.
Yet our front yard doesn’t get the shade like our backyard would, so it’s super hot with little relief. So, a lemonade stand is the perfect excuse to have fun and cool down {one for you, one for me}. Yet, let’s take that classic yet plain drink and kick it up a notch!
Minute Maid has some new and delicious beverage recipes, all incredibly easy yet packed with major taste. While I will try them all this Summer, the one that had to be first was Watermelon Grapefruit Fizz. Yet, our grocery store was sold out of the Minute Maid Grapefruit frozen concentrate. I stood in the freezer section pondering my next move, and scanned the TONS of other varieties available. Change of plans!
Keeping my daughters favorite Summer activity in mind, I decided the Pink Lemonade flavour would be great with Watermelon as well, so into my cart it went. ok, along with a few more flavours too, how could I resist the great price of .60 a can?!
I made what I call Pink Lemonade & Watermelon Fizz, a spin on Minute Maid’s Fizz recipe.
- 4 Cups Cubed Watermelon
- 1/2 Can Minute Maid Pink Lemonade frozen concentrate mixed with 1 can of water
- 4 Cups Sprite
- Basil leaves for garnish
- In batches, puree watermelon cubes in a blender
- In large bowl, stir together watermelon puree with prepared Minute Maid Pink Lemonade juice with watermelon puree
- To serve, fill glass with ice. Fill halfway with juice and top with Sprite. Stir in torn basil leaves for garnish
- Enjoy!
The taste can be described as ‘the epitome of Summer’. Close your eyes and you taste what you have been waiting for, heaven in a glass.
On scorching days, it’s much needed. Also, our Lemonade stand offers what others don’t, as my kids scream while standing on the sidewalk, ‘best lemonade in town!!!!”. I agree!
While in the store looking at all the Minute Maid varieties sold in the freezer section, my eyes landed upon their new products, frozen fruit smoothies! I tossed a couple of these into my cart as well, with plans to seve the day we celebrate our new renovated backyard. I can’t wait!
Made with 100% juice, real fruit puree and no added sugar, Minute Maid Smoothies can be made in three easy steps:
- Pour can contents into blender (no need to thaw!)
- Water and ice (Tip: Substitute milk, yogurt or ice cream for a creamier smoothie)
- Blend and enjoy
Minute Maid Smoothies are available in strawberry-banana and tropical varieties, both of which include real fruit, no added sugar and contain two full servings of fruit per cup (250 ml).
