Oz The Great and Powerful Blu-ray Combo Pack

Oz the great and powerful review giveaway mom blogger

The girls were so happy to one day come home from school and see that a copy of Oz The Great and Powerful Blu-ray Combo Pack, had come in the mail. We didn’t see this film in theatres as I wasn’t entirely certain it would be appropriate for my littles, so I decided to wait for reviews from others first. This is despite constant {and I mean, constant} begging from the girls to go and see it.

I had talked with friends, and many did say that it had scary parts that make their children uncomfortable. Yet, the film is rated PG. After discussion and thought, we decided to let the girls watch the film, as they are not ones to scare easily.

After the film was over, I would say that the girls were fine with the ‘bad witch’ yet it was the witch crawling on the floor at the end of the film that freaked them out some. OK, I admit to looking at hubby during this part with a !!!! look, wasn’t expecting anything that freaky! Yet, the girls hid their eyes and there wasn’t a mention or anything since then, they didn’t give it a second thought actually. {phew}

Overall, just beautiful cinema-graphics, such vivid color! I love the initial scenes in the story and how the color all of a sudden ‘pops’, you’ll just have to see for yourself.

Film Synopsis: When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot. Fame and fortune are his for the taking. That is until he meets three witches: Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting.  Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late.  Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity and even a bit of wizardry, Oscar transforms himself not only into a great wizard but into a better man as well.

  • China Girl and the Suspension of Disbelief – This feature uncloaks the several forms of movie magic employed to bring China Girl to life, from the initial artwork and character design, to the on-set puppeteering during filmmaking, and finally, through each stage of the visual-effects process; and includes an interview with Joey King, the voice of China Girl.
  • Before Your Very Eyes: From Kansas to Oz – Production designer Robert Stromberg takes viewers through the set design of the Land of Oz, from sketching his original ideas on a napkin, through to the final set pieces and the accompanying visual effects.
