Slow Cooker Chicken and Rice with Parmesan Mushroom Sauce

We recently tried a new recipe for dinner, Slow Cooker Chicken and Rice with Parmesan Mushroom Sauce. The family consensus is that it should be made again sometime, so of course it’s going to make it to the Recipe Box at My Organized Chaos.

Chicken and Rice with Parmesan Mushroom Sauce

It’s a take on Chicken Parmesan, yet a mushroom sauce substitutes the more common tomato-based sauce. Instead, using the slow cooker, you get all that ‘Parmesan taste’ in the tender chicken and rice alone. It’s a very flavorful meal, definitely better to taste than to take photos of.

Best of all? It’s a crock-pot meal, meaning dinner is ready without the mad-scramble in the kitchen just before. All you need to is add some greens {we opted for Caesar salad}, yet it would be great with green beans, a tossed salad or a mix of steamed veggies.

  1. I need to get my hands on a slow cooker. This looks tasty, Tammi.

    • Tammi says:

You don’t have one? I couldn’t live without mine, there’s nothing like dinner ready and waiting when you walk in the door. You must get one!!

  2. Looks yummy! I love using my Crock pot too. So handy!

  3. Candace Evanisky says:

looks good- do you have nutritional information

    • Tammi says:

Hi Candace, I don’t, probably for good reason! lol
I don’t think it’s too bad, yet you could scrimp on the salt by using low-sodium soups. I also use 1% milk, so I’m sure that helps as well.

We have a slow cooker but never use it because we have no recipes (well a few) but none that people have tried that are new and looks like something we eat, this looks mouth watering, thanks! We have tried 8 of your recipes now and there all great!

Awesome to hear – I love that my Recipe Box is going to great use! I know I rely on it a lot myself, but great to hear that others do as well. I plan on posting a few more slow cooker recipes, stay tuned!

  7. I make something very similar but never tried it with cheese. Sounds like a nice variation. Thanks for the idea.

great recipe idea… wish I had a slow cooker… guess I will have to modify it…hehe

    • Tammi says:

I think it would be an easy one to modify, for sure!
Baking it in the sauce {even if you make the rice separate}, will still give you tender chicken.

  9. love the slow cooker. We use ours 2-3 times a week. Meat is so tender.

    • Tammi says:

thats one of the best parts, right? The kids love it that way too, tough meat = lots of complaints!

Sounds Delicious! I am absolutely going to make this, in fact I believe I have all I need to make it today, I hope. Well everything except the onion soup mix is here.

    • Tammi says:

I had to double check on the onion soup mix too. Luckily I had some in the pantry still, something I *usually* have, unless I forget to add it to the grocery list.

  11. this sounds spectacular and I’ve so wanted to start using my slow cooker more, it’s so convenient to just throw it all in and leave it. Thanks for this recipe!

  13. Sandra S says:

That’s a great idea, I never would have thought to add rice to the slow cooker. Definitely will have to try this. Thanks for sharing!

  14. Debbie W says:

This is a nice recipe, but I have a question…does the rice get starchy or does it stay nice and firm?
