Family Travel Tips

My family and I are no strangers to travel, yet I do need some Family Travel Tips as you will see by reading on. The first time all 3 of my kids flew, it was across Canada, and I took it on solo! While the thought of family travel can cause heart palpitations, for me the stress is more about what to pack for the trip and not abut kids’ behavior. After all, I know the powers of distraction {and being loaded with those inexpensive dollar store toys}.

In essence it’s about organizing that chaos and being as prepared as you can, you know. Quoting Big Brother here, “expect the unexpected”, keep in mind you cannot ever be 100% prepared. Yet, you know your kids best so for example, if they are messy eaters, it’s a good idea to pack those wet wipes no matter where your destination.

I could list and gab away, yet Fisher-Price has a very handy and helpful list themselves, so why not share that little gem? Here are 9 ways to keep the kids happy on your next family vacation {click on the photo to display a bigger image}:

tips for happy family vacation

I resonate with ‘Where are we going?”, it gets everyone in the family excited and helps educate kids on travel, geography and culture. Of course ‘Surprise’ or as I like to call it, ‘Airplane travel packing 101’, includes all the gear you need for a happy and sane flight. Yes parents, Sane, we all want that, right?

The entire chart has wonderful tips on how to make the most of your family vacation, it makes you think of ways that the kids will get the most out of it as well. It’s always been my goal for little ones to see the value and appreciate travel, and soak in the experience, these tips help  in that area.

OK, why am I talking about travel and Fisher-Price?

You should have known this was coming…

Myself and my fellow Fisher-Prince Moms Ambassadors are going on yet another adventure and this time we are all bringing our families!

To focus on play around the world, travel and fun; we’ll be taking a Royal Caribbean Cruise aboard the Allure of the Seas. Destination,? The West Caribbean  Ahh! So, next week we’ll be flying to Florida and sailing to: Labadee, Haiti; Falmouth, Jamaica; and Cozumel, Mexico {aka, heaven}.

I cannot wait to be together with the Moms and our kids again, we haven’t gotten together since the photo shoot. Yet before we can toast a reunion, the first thing is to tackle that to-do list which includes shopping for airplane snacks and dollor-store toys. Then comes the packing. Lots and lots of packing.

So, I’m alright on the ‘flying with kids’ and ‘sailing’ portion of this trip, I do need advice on the ports I mentioned, as I haven’t been to any of them before. Since the kids are coming, I’m needing some suggestions on what to-do with the kids.

Anyone have advice or suggestions when visiting
Falmouth, Jamaica; Labadee and Cozumel with kids?

  1. Oh MY GOSH you guys are going to LOVE Allure! It is a spectacular ship! I have been to all of the ports multiple times except Falmouth (next year), Here are some of our favorite excursions (my kids have been on these trips in the age ranges of 2 years old to 11 years- so these are definitely family friendly ideas!)

-Cozumel: We LOVED Nachi Cocom, a private beach all inclusive. You get your own tiki hut on a gorgeous beach with food and drink service (unlimited alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages), They have a pool with attached hot tub (more like a warm tub but that was OK) and also have watersports (parasailing, banana boat rides, snorkeling, scuba, etc.) for additional fee. We thought the prices were reasonable! Oh and the limit attendance to 100 people/day so it is never overcrowded! Ask for Carlos!

-Labadee Tons of fun! You have to try the Alpine coaster (Dragon’s Breath) and if you like ziplining- the zipline here is amazing and worth every penny of the like $90 it costs (although the kids can’t do it…!) We were on Nellie’s beach, and it was OK…Columbus beach is probably better (but more crowded). The water inflatables can be very difficult for the little ones. We didn’t do it because we had read you don’t get enough time out there (1/2 hour I think) and we thought it was pricey considering. If you want to shop but don’t want to get hassled, stay inside the building- if you are out in the open air market area the vendors are much more agressive. Have a Labadoozie for me! 🙂

    1. Hi Jennifer!
      Thanks for the tips, wow!
I’m going to look into the Cozumel AI today, sounds like it would be a great fit for us.
I also appreciate the info on the beaches at Labadee, it’s been hard to find good info on this place.
Will do some research today, I know who to ask if I have any questions!
      Thanks again!!
      🙂

  2. WOW! You are SO lucky! Congratulations! I travel with my kids a lot and fisher price has some great tips. I find I just need to keep them busy on the plane so I bring lots of ways to entertain them. The Ipad was definitely a great purchase for us. Lot of games and movies.

    1. I’m stocking the iPad with movies today, it’ll come in handy on our 2 flights there and 2 home. I have pretty great little flyers, but distractions are a must!!
      Thanks!

  3. we got to go to PR last yr and I guess because I’ve not swum in salt water before, I was kinda shocked about how much that stings LOL
see if you can find some sort of zip line stuff to do, try to do a snorkeling tour and just have fun
