Set sail for a fun-filled voyage and hilarious pirate antics with the biggest Band of Misfits on the seven seas out on DVD! When the infamous Pirate Captain {voiced by Hugh Grant, his first animated role} is shunned once again by his rivals Black Bellamy and Cutlass Liz, he sets his sights to win the coveted Pirate of the Year Award. With his trusted dodo, Polly and rag-tag crew at his side, the Pirate Captain will need to battle a diabolical queen, save a young scientist and never lose sight of what a pirate loves best: Adventure!
If the animation looks familiar, it’s because The Pirates! Band of Misfits is made by Aardman Studios, the same that brought the Wallace and Gromit movies.
Even though I have 3 girls, they are crazy about pirates, and they were so excited to get their copy of The Pirates! Band of Misfits. The film is adapted from a children’s book, in bright and vivid color. My daughters especially liked the character, Polly {the crews pet, not a parrot but a Dodo bird}.
Everyone in the film has great personalities and there are so many small jokes, which makes it a great comedy. Some of these jokes flew by the kids though, some are geared toward adults and even some UK-based gags {a couple of which I even didn’t quite ‘get’}. Goes to show that this animated film isn’t just for kids, adults from across the world would enjoy!
