    1. Can you imagine if these were in circulation these days, Even by mistake?! the uproar!!!

  1. Omg! I can’t even believe they advertised like that at one point! Wtf? Some of those were sick! :/

  2. A few of those are spoof – taken from another site (read the wording closely and look at the alterations – they are noticable. The baby oil one is cute, though.

      1. The one with the little girl and the “ground dad meat” being spread on bread… Yes this girl is creepy in the original, but the ad is originally for jam or something

    1. Oh yes – that is awesome. If anything, maybe it was circulated after the ‘man stepping on woman in bear carcass’? Kinda a – take that!! lol

  3. I don’t think THAT much has changed or that we’ve come as far as we’d like to think. The world is still inhabited but men who think this way and work in marketing, advertising, etc. We still hear “make me a sandwich” jokes ALL the time because they’re just SO hilarious, right? Women working and not staying at home is still looked down on, even in recent Hollywood films about the career woman who has it all but is completely miserable until she finds the ~right guy~ to settle down with.
These ads are pretty funny if you think we’re past that and maybe these messages aren’t as blatant in ads anymore, but they are certainly still widely circulated in a number of other media. We’ve grown smarter as a collective, yes, but marketers and advertising firms have acknowledged that. They’re smarter with their delivery too. Things might seem tame now in comparison to 50 years ago but there’s still a long, long way to go.

  4. oh my goodness! “where has daddy gone” that’s actually sick. I wonder what the future generations are going to say about our advertising today…

  5. The meat grinder one is fake, but pretty hilarious (“Grind like a bitch with rabies” in the 50s/60s? Yeah no).

Some of the others though… pretty sure going back to a land of subjugation and placid obeyance isn’t in the cards, mkay.

  6. I remember when I was younger we would use baby oil and “lay out” on a blanket to tan in the summer. No sunscreen. Just oil. And they even had these silver blankets to attract the sun, so we would basically be trying to roast ourselves! Times have changed…I have embraced my paleness! (And for my face I use SPF 110…no joke! Keeping those wrinkles away from my face!!)

  7. Oh wow, if those ARE real vintage ads, that’s sad! I am glad I am not living in the (50-60’s?) anymore! Phew!

  8. Oh my Goodness …. there was one going around work about how to accept women in the work place… it was incredible.

  9. I DO NOT FIND THESE ADS MORE SHOCKING THEN ONES THAT ARE ON TV ETC. TODAY, JUST OUTDATED

  10. The babies are actually cute despite the fact that they are in the sun without any protection. But super cute..the others are just kinda creepy.

  11. LOL, I think I will have to tell my husband no more Van Heusen ties if he thinks THAT will ever happen in our house 😉

  12. I can’t believe they had those kind of ads back then. I thought things were worse now a days. Some of them are pretty bad.
