Are you Playing in the #LegoDuplo 30-Day Challenge?

With only a week left in the 30 day play Challenge with #LegoDuplo, this month has gone by so fast! Honestly, I thought it would be the longest month ever, especially considering the attention spans of the twin toddlers these days. I really did think they would get bored with ‘Lego’, only because it wasn’t an item that they usually played with on a daily basis.

But they have!

One of my goals for this challenge was to be an active participant in play, to encourage free thinking and imagination. Really, this has been the best mission to show me that. The girls look forward to checking out each days challenge and then making up their own creation based on that idea. They love the challenge of taking a plan and making it their own. They love creating with me, and have become so proud of their work.

So, I learned a few things here:

  • Quality of daily play. Give kids a simple task and see what they create. With my kids, their ‘play’ is rather broad but if you narrow down their goal for them, they are more able to concentrate on the task and think outside the box. Being ones to create the same things over and over, their imaginations really took off with this challenge, great to see
  • Be a kid again! I admitted that I don’t often get onto the floor and play with them, at least not as often as I did as when they were babies. I allowed myself to be a kid again, it really is a refreshing part of my day. I was surprised just how much I look forward to our special time each day.
  • With the 3yo twins and their older 7yo sister, they play with the same items at the same time. But when it came to Lego? It wasn’t something that they worked together on, always choosing to do separate projects. Thanks to the #LegoDuplo play challenge, they learned to work together to create something. I am happy to see just how much they got along with their teamwork.

Thanks Olfa, it is a fun challenge. Something I hope to carry on beyond the 30 days. I’m having fun with my kid-hat on again! lol

  2. I found your site this week, and this is the first time I have read about this Lego challenge. I LOVE the idea. I wonder if I am too late though. Contest closes April 8. :( This gives me some ideas though to do with the kids for that one on one time.
