Disney Mars Needs Moms

Tomorrow {on August 9th}, Disney is releasing Mars Needs Moms onto Blu-Ray & DVD. My family got a copy of the Blu-Ray/DVD Combo Pack for review, and it was the first time we had seen this film. What I didn’t expect from this movie, was that it was so tearjerking for this Mom to watch! Really though, it’s a Disney film, I always get a little weepy in Disney films. But still, I didn’t expect it from this one.

So why did I get so emotional? You see, the meaning behind the story is that Mom’s are always there for us, even going against all odds to save their children. So, it’s nice to see the parent/child love and how far the son {Milo} goes to save his Mom.

Here’s the Synopsis:

Take out the trash, eat your broccoli – who needs moms anyway? Nine-year-old Milo (Seth Green) finds out how much he needs his mom (Joan Cusack) when she’s nabbed by Martians who plan to steal her mom-ness for their own young. In a race against time and oxygen, his quest to save her knows no bounds. And with some unexpected help, Milo just might find his way back to her – in more ways than one. Complete with intergalactic bonus features, it’s a thrilling journey that’s pure, out-of-this-world crazy fun.

So, even Martians think that Mom’s are pretty special and set out to take them for their own. At first I watched the twins’ reactions to this movie since they haven’t seen one quite this this. I was ready to turn it off, since there’s scary parts – and they steal Mothers!! Then did cringe at some parts of the movei – yet they did overall like it and weren’t scared at all. Now, I’m not apt to say that each and every 3 year old will be alright with Mommy stealing aliens, but mine were {just saying, make your own call, parents!} And, after the movie I questioned the girls asking about the topic, to which they replied, ‘It’s just a funny movie, Mom”.

Now, due to the storyline etc, it’s a pretty dark movie {as in, there’s a lot of grey and black colors throughout}. So, it’s not your typical vibrantly-flower-colored Disney movie. This made it a little hard for me to watch, and maybe this is the reason why {out of all my kids’ Disney movies}, this one is watched less? In any case, the girls did enjoy this movie, but part of me is thinking that older boys might like it better. I do have 3 self-proclaimed princesses after all!

Regardless, any Disney fan will want to watch Mars Needs Moms, and add it to their library. The Blu-Ray disc has exciting bonus features like an extended opening, deleted scenes and all the bonus features on the DVD! My girls love the bonus features on Disney movies and take a particular liking to the Martian 101 feature. They laugh lysterically at all the martian-talk, trying to repeat and speak to each other. So funny!
