Last weekend, I had the opportunity to meet some fabulous key players in social media, get a glimpse into the world of Nokia, play with a whole lotta phones and bask in the beauty of the Canadian Rockies. All at the same time. Cool eh?
I was in Canmore, Alberta for Nokia Unfenced: Canadian edition. The mission? Phone testin’ and phone slingin’ cowboy fun. Yet weren’t just handed a phone with product info to have a look at and try out. We dove {literally} into testing various phones, while doing a number of outdoor activities. How does this raise the bar when it comes to product testing and getting to know features?
Have you ever tried to send a tweet or take photos while zipling through trees at 50 feet in the air, while also trying to cling onto the trees so you don’t fall off?

What about using your phone while riding a less than cooperative horse?

Until you write these tests off as extreme ways to test a phones’ capabilities, think of correlations to usual life. I’m sure you’ve tried taking photos of the kids whizzing by at 40MPH, while also carrying 2 bags of groceries and a diaper bag. Yes, everyone needs a phone that works with the life you want to capture!
And what about durability? Yes, I know that we have all dropped a phone or five in our past! Would your current phone survive a drop while hanging out in treetops? That’s right, a Nokia N8 fell to the ground while zip lining 50 ft up in the air, and survived without a scratch nor blip. Can ease of use then allow you to hang onto cable with dear might, and tweet about that survival?
Tweet, Tweet
We put various phones’ Navigation Capabilities to test while going on a navitation scavenger hunt through the town of Canmore, finding our way to the restaurant for dinner. A little cold, albeit, but we sure needed a trusted maps system that evening – hungry and cold makes for need of a dependable phone with reliable features!

And, in true Nokia Unfenced fashion, an ‘official’ drop test was held. This time, an iPhone 4 and a C7 were dropped onto a rocky path. The iPhone didn’t look so pretty, yet the Nokia came out {again} unscathed. Watch the entire Nokia Drop Test on Video unfold.

As you can see, the Nokia Unfenced Event was a blast for all of us that attended, make sure to follow #NokiaUnfenced on Twitter to get more information and links to some great posts and photos.
It’s true that in all that fun there was much to learn about various Nokia phones {and comparison to others as well}. So, I’ll be back with more specifics on what this social media Mom thinks about those products, including the new X7 which is hitting stores soon.

Oh my goodness, looks fabulous! There’s no way I’d be brave enough to mess with the phone/camera while on those ropes!
I like how you all dressed the same haha Nokias Idea? Phone looks tough good for those with kids who play with their phone.
Ok the phone may be durable, but it still is overall a bad phone. Symbian Anna, really? I’ll stick to my android device, thanks.
