Protect your Phone: OtterBox Defender Series

Story prelude for you: Coming home from a trip to Toronto this Spring, rush hour traffic made me late in getting to the airport. I remember jumping out of the cab and tearing through the airport in heels, only to have gotten past security and panic, “Where Is My iPhone!?!”. The worst had happened – I had lost my phone somewhere, and I sunk into despair. Very long story short and almost 2 weeks later – I got my phone back from lost & found at the Toronto airport!

Yet, once again I was sad to discover that my phone had obviously suffered damage. Sand and dirt were in the ports, it was scratched and no TLC in the world made it work properly again {it was turned in – wow, I know – yet I had dropped it in dirt on my way out of the cab}. May my phone rest in peace. Don’t get me wrong, I am glad to have found it, for the fact that someone out there didn’t have all my ‘stuff’ {privacy shudder}. BUT, my iPhone wasn’t even 8 months old yet, and it cost me DEARLY to have it replaced. Once again, I cried in the airport, this time in flats. I think back to when I purchased my iPhone and had settled for the cheapest rubber cover I could find. Really?! What good did that thing do me? You get a case to protect your precious {in my case, my iPhone}. So PLEASE, speaking from experience, get a good one!

OtterBox is a Father’s Day Gift Guide feature, because I don’t know ANY man out there that wouldn’t want this product. When I got myself a marvelous and fabulous Defender Series for my iPhone 3G/3GS for review {thanks OtterBox!}, hubby was so disappointed that I didn’t choose one for his blackberry! The Defender Series for iPhone 3G/3GS is the highest quality, toughest case available. It features three layers of protection, guarding against every bump, drop and scratch. There’s a hard polycarbonate shell and the soft silicone skin, so it’s soft to the touch from the outside. But, that’s not all – it also has removable flaps that cover the different access points {plugs} when they’re not in use. So, this guards against dust and grime as well.

Now, I’m not about to put my phone under intentional abuse in order to test it’s effectiveness. Yet, myself and the kids have dropped my phone many times since and no damage at all has occurred. Even the case doesn’t show wear! I chose the Pink Plastic/Black Silicone design, yet there are many styles and colors available at Otterbox.

I did have an initial issue with the watermark/sticking of the built-in protective screen, to the phone screen {you know, that annoying spotted cling?}. The helpful people at Otterbox sent me a YouTube Video with an easy solution to watermarks on the phone screen. Really, this was such a simple and effective solution, and it lasted for weeks before I had to do it again. One great how-to video!

My precious at the moment is my iPhone, and I know from experience just how crucial it is to protect your devices from the ‘just in cases’s’ out there.
